Blind man hits 3-point shot at Missouri college game
February 17 The Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man who is blind and mentally impaired is getting some national attention – and a year’s worth of McDonald’s value meals – after hitting a 3-point shot during halftime of a college basketball game.

Fans at a College of the Ozarks basketball game cheered wildly Saturday when 54-year-old Michael Quin hit the shot. A video of the shot got attention on some social media sites during the weekend.

KSPR-TV reports Quin had a series of falls beginning six years ago, causing him to go blind in 2010 and lose much of his mental capacity.

He joined Champion Athletes of Ozarks, which helps disabled people participate in sports.

Quin says he likes basketball and was excited about his shot – as well as the free food from McDonald’s.

His "prize " is food from McDonalds. Doesn't the dude have enough problems? Blind and no mental capacity?

I saw the game live (played at College of the Ozarks). He missed the first shot short on the rim. The second shot made it and the gym erupted. I am going to start closing my eyes to shoot, I can't do any worse than I do now.

I really want to know more about this. How many times did he fall, and under what circumstances? How bad are you falling if you eventually go blind and lose mental capacity as a result? I had no idea this could happen.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go install some handrails on my stairs at home.
