Sandbox football is gearing up - room for new owners.

Hi all,

For those of you who haven't participated, our Sandbox Simulations football game had a good initial test, and we're gearing up for Season Two now. We have some openings for new team owners, and the current leagues will be free forever since we're still beta testing.

The league works like this:

1. You get a team. Since we're in Season Two, you will be hired to run an existing team as coach/owner.
2. The teams currently have their end of year rosters from 2011, so you'll be able to do a fair bit of rebuilding. We'll hold the 2012 rookie draft and a veteran free agent acquisition, and then we'll conduct a season. You'll build a full 53-man roster.
3. The seasons are just like NFL football. You'll develop a general offensive and defensive philosophy and game plan for your team, and you'll deal with lineup shuffles as players get injured. Each week you'll get a play by play to see how your team fared.
4. The season is played on an accelerated basis so we should be done with it before the real NFL training camp starts. At that point we'll hold a 2013 rookie draft, and you'll be able to pick up veteran free agents over the course of the real NFL season.
5. Repeat as desired.

It's quite fun, actually, and the game engine works superbly. It's quite enjoyable to pull up the play by play and watch the game unfold, and to grumble as you have to shuffle lineups when injuries occur.

We'll be going commercial with the game at some point soon, but the two beta leagues will always be free. You'll be like George Halas with the Bears - at some point these franchises will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.*

So if you're interested, let me know here and I'll assign you to a team. As with the real NFL, you don't have control over the team you inherit, so your challenge may be maintaining a powerhouse or more likely rebuilding a team that was managed poorly - you know, like the Chiefs.

* - Financial performance not guaranteed.

Here's the thread that started it all: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=248221

If you want to play,

Those who want to play need to:

1. Post in this thread and we'll confirm whether a team is currently available.
2. Register on http://sandboxsimulations.com using the access code: 6Lanier3
3. Follow the registration procedure until you get to the screen where you select your team name. STOP HERE WITHOUT PICKING A TEAM NAME.
4. Once Rain Man assigns you a team, and you have completed through step 3, PM cdcox or post in this thread and cdcox will connect the existing team with your user account
.

I can take a 2nd team if no new takers.

Ebolapox 05-12-2013 12:13 AM

how much of a time commitment is it generally speaking?

Cool. It looks like you're in League 2 now, so would you want to take over the Springfield Attack in League 1? They went 6-10 last year and might need a quarterback going forward.

I would estimate the following over the course of a Sandbox Season.

Review roster and rookie draft - Maybe 5 to 10 hours, but in little bursts.
Veteran free agents - Maybe a few hours this year. It'll be very spread out and diffuse in future years, but this year will be a little more concentrated.
Set up your team's game plans - Two hours
Play week to week - Maybe 10 minutes per week.
Celebrate Super Bowl win - 15 minutes, but you'll already be thinking about the repeat.

Ebolapox 05-12-2013 12:25 AM

do you compete against other people for free agents, etc?

Yeah, we're got a cool system in the works for free agency. It's going to be something you do over time in the offseason, which is the actual NFL season. You'll be bidding for free agents as you see their performance in real games. We're trying to get it in place for this immediate draft, but if not we'll have it in place for the next one.

hmmmmm.... yeah, put me down for a team. I'm assuming there will be a bit of a learning curve, but let's do this thing

MagicHef 05-12-2013 12:36 AM

I really enjoyed doing it when I was involved, but my internet usage became close to 100% mobile, and honestly the sandbox website was really difficult to use on a phone. Has it changed at all, or is it the same?

Cool. You have a nice turnaround team in League 2, the Aurora Borealis. It was strong, but the previous owner's strategy of never punting didn't quite pay off. They were 3-13 last year, but are actually a pretty talented team.

Well...it's the same. That's something we'll work on. But your team needs you to defend its division title!

PM cdcox and tell him your team name and give him an e-mail address. Once he gets you assigned you can go log in and you should see your second team as an option.

Yeah, it's actually a pretty good team. You can PM and he'll get you access to the site.
