Some Perspective

For all the people that want to bash the Kansas Jayhawks because they hate KU, or for all the KU fans that are pissed at Bill Self and the players, READ THIS: Here is what you must be forgetting. Bill Self lost all 5 starters from last year.

58% off all scholarship players this year were Freshmen. Yes. 7 out of 12 players were Freshmen. Mason, Frankamp, Selden, Lucas, Greene, Wiggins, and Embiid were all Freshmen. Ellis, Traylor and White were only Sophomores, and they barely played last year. Black, who is a Senior, was in his "freshman" year in Self's offensive and defensive systems. Only 1 player had significant playing time under Self, and that was Tharpe.

Just think about that. 7 Freshmen, and 3 Sophomores, a first year Senior, and a Junior, replaced all 5 starters from the year before, played the toughest schedule anyone can remember, won the statistically toughest league in college basketball, and gained a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Was this loss disappointing? Yes. Was this season a disappointment? HELL NO.

This young team played a non-con schedule that was unreal, played a conference schedule that saw them play ranked team after ranked team, and they won the league. I wish we could have won today, but given all the info I just posted, I am proud of this team, and proud to be a Jayhawk. If you think this team underachieved, that is your problem. Rock Chalk.

Not by our standards.

Perry is a good player against bad teams, and struggles vs decent ones. Unless you can disprove that statistically. The problem is, we don't get to play TCU and Northwest Weber State Wesleyan as the tourney toughens.

Perry Ellis
24 points, 9 rebounds against Duke
Nearly a double double against Colorado who was 9-1 and before they lost their best player
21 points, 9 rebounds against New Mexico
22 points, 11 rebounds against Oklahoma
18 points against Baylor
20 points against Iowa State
14 points, 10 rebounds against Baylor
19 points, 11 rebounds against KSU in Manhattan (a place where most teams lost this year)
30 points against ISU in the Big 12 tournament
14 points, 13 rebounds in our first NCAA tourney game

Your statement is just plain false. Now if you want to make the case that he is a little inconsistent it would be accurate. Of course, one could then make the argument that he is open a lot of times and the guards just don't get the ball to him. He is a good scorer. Just gotta get more consistent. Perry is still not a good defender but I did see improvement this year, especially late in the season.

Well said. Just FTR, we have a high standard on expectations at KU, reason we have spoiled fans at the end of the season too.

Bill Self is hosting a team barbecue poolside at his house tonight.

First thing you may notice is that Bill Self has an awesome house. Second, you may notice is that Cliff Alexander (on the left) is wearing a walking boot on his right foot.

The picture was originally posted on Frank Mason’s instagram page, but it is now deleted.

According to Gary Bedore of the Lawrence Journal-World, Alexander has a sprained ankle:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Cliff Alexander sprained his right ankle and has a boot. No surgery or anything but foot immobilized a few weeks self said</p>&mdash; Gary Bedore (@GaryBedore) <a href="https://twitter.com/GaryBedore/statuses/486694412999614464">July 9, 2014</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Alexander tweeted out that he is “good.”

Cliff Alexander is a top three incoming recruit at Kansas and is expected to fill Joel Embiid’s hole in the starting lineup. The McDonald’s All American injured his hand in the April McDonald’s All American Slam Dunk contest earlier this year. Despite the injury, he still played in the All American game.

Many basketball players wear walking boots from time to time. Some times they are used as precautionary measures. Kentucky’s Tyler Ulis, also a freshman, was seen in a walking boot in June for precautionary reasons.

We’ll update as we hear more info.

Update: As soon as I posted this on Twitter, Cliff Alexander retweeted it:

I like that somebody is at the bar, and there appears to be a bartender. Also, Bill's dog.

Wrong thread... this is last season's KU thread.

Wanna throw tennis balls into the pool and have that dog jump in and go after them like Apollo in Rocky IV.
