"The Invasion" ... Yays ... Nays?

Is this one worth seeing at the theater, or better to wait for DVD? Does it remotely do justice to the classic version with Donald Sutherland? I'm also curious if there is a tie-in, other than this being a remake? I noticed that in this one, Nicole Kidman's character is Carol Bennell, and in the 1978 version, Donald Sutherland's character is Matthew Bennell. And in this one, Daniel Craig's character is Ben Driscoll, and in the 1978 version, Brooke Adams' character was Elizabeth Driscoll. Are they doing a next generation thing?

I think every review I've seen so far is calling it one of the worst movies of the year.

Critics are 20% on Rotten Tomatoes and users 48%.

I think ChiefsLV said it made 1408 look good.

Or maybe it was 'because of 1408, it was better'.

Either way, that's not good.

This movie has been sitting around for 3 years. There's been edit after edit after edit, trying to make it into something marketable. It's a remake of the 50's movie, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", which was more political than science fiction (the "Body Snatchers" were an allusion to Communists-Russians).

I'd say avoid at all cost.

Yeah, that's the impression I'm getting from everyone I've talked to who has seen it. I may even give it a pass when it comes out on DVD. I know I loved the '78 version (I think I've seen the 50s version, but I don't remember), and anything else would probably pale anyway. I didn't know that about the political allusion to communism, but I can see it, with the lack of emotions, and so on.
