Credit Question

I have a derogatory mark on my credit history that is nearing the 7 year mark. What can I do to get it off? Also, has anyone used or heard good or bad things about credit repair services?

get an Equifax account and dispute it - they include detailed instructions on how to dispute. That'll get them to work in correcting it.

I'd steer clear of credit repair services. A buddy of mine shelled out a couple of grand to one of those services years ago and they did nothing to his credit report.

If it's close to seven years, just be patient and it will disappear at the seven year mark.

It may be like $30 per month - I don't remember.

Credit repair services are a known scam. Contact the firm that holds your bad mark and see if they'll do a pay for delete.
If you can't pay even a negotiated lower rate the mark should drop off soon.
Are you trying to get a mortgage, car loan, card?

They said total if everything gets off my credit would be 600 dollars

Talk to your lender, see if it even matters. If it does, negotiate a pay for delete.

How long before the item reaches the 7 year mark?

My credit score is good he said I can get approved, just worried that the underwriter might deny it when it comes time to buy the house we want.

Rinse and repeat with all three credit reporting companies until it vanishes. They send a confirmation to the offending company and the company will likely miss one and then TU/Eq/Ex will remove it. This is basically all those "clean your credit" scam companies do if they even bother doing it in most cases.

You're fine. If you aren't comfortable contact them and settle for delete.

You think I should just go ahead and try to buy a house?
