EJ Manuel
Why shouldn't I be really high on this guy?
I'll admit I have only read a few scouting reports and watched a couple of Youtube clips prior to last week to develop my opinion on him. I never really sat down and watched a complete game of his before I decided he was a second tier prospect. I watched most of the Miami game and parts of the Duke game and I think he might be a lot better than I was willing to give him credit for. I'm not married to anything here - I have decided I have next to no read for EJ Manuel. So I come to you, Planet draftniks. Educate me on the kid. Tell me why he's not a legitimate NFL prospect. He's massive, his arm looks plenty strong, his decision-making has been good this year and the dude is actually fast. Why isn't he Ben Roethlisberger with speed? What am I missing in EJ Manuel that caused me to throw him away sooner than I think I should have? I feel like I need to be talked of this guy because from what I've seen, he looks like he should be right there with the Smith/Barkley/Wilson grouping. |
He was playing against Duke.
He floats balls a lot as well. I don't think he throws a very good long ball or balls going across the field. His defense has been superb this season and he's worked with a short field a ton. Played with very little pressure on him because of it. But I don't like when he's forced to make a play. He plays skittish. He's Ben Raperberger without the instincts (right now), and would be a project at the next level. |

However, some are more than others. Guys like Geno and Barkley look to have the least adjustment based on their accuracy and feel and repetitions in a passing attack offense. Guys like Manuel and Thomas will have a bigger adjustment because of their lower reps in a passing offense versus controlling a game with their size and legs. We need a guy to step in and be the man. I've got a better feeling about that man being a guy like Geno versus Manuel. |
Thomas will not be successful as a long term starter in the NFL IMO, based on the play that I have seen this year and last year.
Haven't watched Manuel at all. |

After his combine today and more scouting reports on the kid, has anyone else come around on EJ yet?
I was way ahead of the field on Geno - chances that I was ahead of the curve on this guy as well? EJ's going to be a riser and I like the guy quite a bit. |
EJ's got 2nd round reach all over him. Somebody will roll the dice.
Honestly I think there's going to be a run on QBs in the 2nd. |

If for w/e reason we passed on Geno, Manuel would be one of the top on my list come round 2. |
someone will talk themselves into him in the first...
|
No. Still think he's terrible - and I've been way ahead on that.

Manuel is the "athletic" version of Glennon. Ideal measureables, mediocre on the field.
Someone will take him too high, and he'll be lucky to max out at Jake Plummer. |

That is an outstanding play.
He's still not very good right now. I think he can develop into a nice QB in time, but I don't see a Super Bowl winner there. |
I know your life is different these days, but you REALLY need to resurrect Gif'd Up, Clay. :)
