Merriman must be training for a comeback.

The best part is that he went right back out to a club. What a dumb-ass, and I used to respect him to a degree.

Ball don't lie

Merriman sure got a lot of attention for not much production. He got 10 sacks his first year, then 17 and 12.5 the next two years. After that, he totaled 6 sacks in the next five years. He was much ado about nothing.

roided up loser

Hootie 06-10-2013 11:24 AM

well 17 sacks was pretty badass

I think the going right back to a club and hitting up Twitter about a stained shirt and lost sunglasses right after getting out of the hospital may be more impressive.

I'll spot him that season. But otherwise he was pretty meh. I wonder how much money he made those last five seasons when I had almost as many sacks as he did.

well obviously the roids were his uprising and downfall

but he was the toast of the league for those 3 years

I agree. He was the greatest thing since sliced steroid-infused bread.

I remember seeing him and Trent Green together on some show related to the draft or something. Trent's not shrimpy by any means, but you wondered how a reasonably normal guy like Trent Green survived out there getting hit by monsters like Merriman. The guy was absolutely mammoth, and was nominally just a linebacker.

Hootie 06-10-2013 11:37 AM

he was definitely one of my least favorite players ever

I remember when Eli started slow and the Chargers got Rivers, Merriman and Kaeding for Eli and everyone was all like 'oh man what a great trade!!!'

Yeah I'm thinking the Giants won that one.

"I am stepping back to pursue other great opportunities that have been afforded me."

so, OD in hollywood?

Consistent1 06-10-2013 11:41 AM

My question is did he really just quit taking GH, test, etc...or did something else happen? The league is just loaded with that stuff, and people to help you around it. Why would he just stop? Never made sense to me. It obviously wasn't a morality decision when you read stories like this.

Hootie 06-10-2013 11:41 AM

I think he just ****ed his knee up and was just done.

Does anybody believe Cushing is clean?

WhawhaWhat 06-10-2013 11:43 AM

So cocaine, ecstasy or xanax?
