Good Luck to Tony G Today

This football weekend would be made much better if Tony G gets a playoff win today. He's played in five playoff games and lost them all. Like to see him get to taste a victory at least once in his career. Class guy, Hall of Famer, and he'll go in the Hall as a Chief.

Go Falcons! Go get one for TG today.

gblowfish 01-13-2013 12:25 PM

I post this, and Ryan throws a pick aimed at TG. Outstanding. Talk about the kiss of death...

milkman 01-13-2013 12:28 PM

gblowfish 01-13-2013 12:31 PM

I'd rather **** his old lady!

Cannibal 01-13-2013 12:33 PM

I'm pulling for Seattle. They're the more entertaining team in my opinion.

2bikemike 01-13-2013 12:37 PM

I am hoping TG is able to go all the way to the big game. Just don't know if Atlanta has the juice.

RealSNR 01-13-2013 12:37 PM

Don't really care if he gets a playoff win. If he does, then good for him. If he doesn't, it at least satisfies my bitterness that he couldn't get one in KC and he won't get one in Fatlanta either

**** Tony Gonzalez. He is a piece of shit that was rude to the fans and bitched and moaned to be traded to a "winner".

Two good catches right there! He got fired up after that scuffle over blocking a few plays ago.

Maybe Dorsey can work a trade back to KC for a 4th rounder...

Beautiful TD catch by TG. Nice.

You can't blame TG for wanting out of KC when Pioli came in. It's not his fault Fat Scott took Arenas with that pick. He just wanted a chance to win. If they win today, he's one game away from the Super Bowl. That's better than playing for a 2-14 train wreck, as he would have here this season. I harbor no more ill will to him than I do for Brian Waters going to play for New England last year. The guy is one of the best tight ends ever. Right up there with John Mackey, Kellen Winslow and Ozzie Newsome.

MMXcalibur 01-13-2013 12:43 PM

I like Seattle, I like Tony G. Win win for me

Are people really made about one of the best TE's wanting out of one of the most poorly run and under-performing franchises in all of sports?

Tell me how long you would stay at a job you didn't like when the reason you have that job is to win?

TG can go straight to L.

GloryDayz 01-13-2013 12:55 PM

Meh, the more he does as a Falcon the less chance he goes into the hall as a Chief. If a player can give up on a city (for whatever good and justified reason), I think it's more than fair for the former city to not to care too much about what achievements said player earns in his greener pasture.

But if he gets it, and it looks like he will, good for him I'm sure him mother and father wil be proud.

And he makes a great catch...

Prison Bitch 01-13-2013 12:56 PM

When he dunked on us this year, I booed his ass. I think he's a scumbag worthless turd now and hope he fails every time he steps on the field. What a classless ass.

More of these guys than we'd care to admit are probably just like him - they've just been better at hiding it. Fame and fortune tend to that to people. Is he a shitty person? From most everything I've heard, yes. Will I lose any sleep if Atlanta loses today? No. But I wouldn't mind seeing him finally get that monkey off his back. He did a lot for us over the years, and it's certainly not his fault that we never won dick while he was here.

Point taken, and it doesn't take long for somebody to want to leave the Chiefs or the Royals organizations if they are the type to have both a burning desire to commit heart, mind, body and soul to winning, and have a ticket to a contender. Let's hope it all changes in KC, for both teams, next year.

The point some of us might be making is that once a player makes that choice, right or wrong, should we care?

So he was free to leave, was very sought after, and he left. Good for him. But wanting him to succeed in his new city isn't near the top of my list either.

So no hate, but no concern either...

Straight, No Chaser 01-13-2013 01:04 PM

He wanted out when ***** came in. Can't blame a guy who hopefully goes in to the HOF as a Chief:

With Elusive Victory in Sight, Retirement Talk Must Wait

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — For Michael Palmer, breakfast consists of oatmeal with blueberries and cinnamon. Why not a higher-calorie meal for a strapping, energy-burning N.F.L. tight end?

Because Tony does it.

Off to the side at each Atlanta Falcons practice, Palmer, an understudy whose chief duty is blocking, catches about a hundred passes. Why?

Because Tony does it.

In the team’s fitness area, Palmer devotes increased time to stretching because ... Tony does it.

For 16 seasons, Tony Gonzalez, 36, has done it better than most tight ends. But amid the glittering career numbers that would make a statistician swoon — 1,242 receptions for 14,268 yards and 103 touchdowns — one protrudes like a rotten apple in a bushel full of Red Delicious: zero.

Gonzalez spent 12 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and went 0-3 in playoff games, their extended postseason doldrums portending a limited future. So he negotiated a trade to the Falcons — the franchise with the worst N.F.L. postseason history (six victories since its inception in 1966).

Yet with Atlanta, Gonzalez saw promise at the administrative and coaching levels and in quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Roddy White, players he speaks so highly of he could preside over their fan clubs.

With the Falcons for four years, Gonzalez has celebrated 45 regular-season victories, more than any other team during that time except for Green Bay and New England. Yet in the playoffs, he is 0-2 with them.

With retirement looming — Gonzalez lists the odds of his playing next year at 19 to 1 — his desire for his first playoff victory falls well short of obsession. But, asked if a loss Sunday to the Seattle Seahawks would leave a hole in his résumé, he responded tersely.

“That’s a tough question,” he said. “Ask me after the game.”

Gonzalez has been around long enough to recognize that players are judged significantly on their postseason fortunes.

“Obviously, in the playoffs, it steps up more because that is really kind of where your legacy comes in,” he said. “What you do in the playoffs is what a majority of people remember.”

To Falcons Coach Mike Smith, one of Gonzalez’s many fans, there should be no win-for-Gonzalez sentiment in the locker room. Team-driven motivation should suffice.

“Everybody needs to put individual thoughts behind them,” Smith said.

That might be more challenging for the Falcons than containing Russell Wilson in the pocket.

Palmer is among Gonzalez’s teammates who have told him how much they want to win for him. “It’s no secret,” Palmer said of the sentiment.

The figure most associated with Gonzalez lately is 95, as in the percentage that he invokes on the likelihood of his retirement.

The number appears to reflect reality. Gonzalez says his longtime companion and three children have similar leanings. Yet he intends to mull it over deep into the off-season, which partly explains why he has no intention of mimicking linebacker Ray Lewis’s moves in Baltimore last weekend during his final home game.

“You don’t want to see me dance,” he said. “That’s not a pretty thing.”

Gonzalez evidently has not disclosed his intentions to his coaches or teammates. He and the tight ends coach Chris Scelfo, in fact, agreed in training camp that the topic would stay off-limits.

If he does retire, Gonzalez will become part of a select group of players who quit before their production began tailing off. His reception and touchdown totals this season surpassed those of his previous seasons in Atlanta, even after, by Scelfo’s estimate, Gonzalez confronted bracket coverage in six or seven games.

“Frankly, I think he’s gotten better,” said Scelfo, who has been Gonzalez’s position coach from the outset in Atlanta.

Gonzalez has offset any physical regression with a strict diet and a tweaked training regimen that features workouts with a kettlebell.

Scelfo has reduced Gonzalez’s load at practice, telling him: “We don’t need you on Wednesday or Thursday. We need you Sunday.”

Broad shouldered, Gonzalez is a master at applying to football the craft of blocking out a defender that he honed as a ferocious rebounder for the University of California basketball team. An innate sense of impending contact enables Gonzalez to protect himself, minimizing injuries.

“I feel fine,” he said. “Honestly, probably a little bit healthier than I did the last few years.”

Still, the probability of retirement sounded closer to certain with this comment: “There is no tomorrow. There is no saying, ‘We’ll get them next year.’ It’s about going out there and trying to finish on the right note.”

If Gonzalez heads into retirement, Palmer’s playing time figures to grow next season should the Falcons bring him back. Nonetheless, the increased workload would be bittersweet.

“As long as he wants to play,” Palmer said, “I’m all for it.”

Hopefully, on the last play of the game he gets his neck snapped and he gets to watch the Falcons (and next year, the Chiefs) go on in the playoffs from the comfort of his Stephen Hawking-mobile...

Oops, I'm sorry...was that mean of me to say?

Yea because I guarantee there are plenty of arrogant pricks on the Chiefs current roster as well. I like good football players and could really care less about how nice these guys are as people. If we are talking about a criminal history with an NFL player that is different, but to hate him because he is an arrogant prick means you might not want to have any players you like in this league.

Not possible!! Dude gave 10 years of his career to a shitty franchise and didn't even get one measly playoff win. When he saw this franchise "rebuilding" in 2009, he asked to be traded to a winner because shockingly, he actually wants to win! What a total asshole prick, who would make such a decision after 10 years and not one meaningful win to show for it?!

You don't have to root for him but to root against him because he is some sort of backstabber to KC is just asinine.

Great that Tony got a playoff win. Can we all stop acting like he's still a member of the Chiefs now? He chose to leave this team. Stop humping his leg like he's one of ours.

I've had some harsh words for him over the years, but its pretty much just residual butthurt, he doesnt owe us anything... he was a consumate pro his entire stay here.

Glad he's moving on towards his big shot, he deserves it, particularly after his CLUTCH play to get them into fg range... a BRILLIANT call by Koetter... "you want to win this one Tony? good, because i'm calling your number deep downfield"
