Mock (3/26/13)
Doing my best Andy Reid impression here. Lots of trades.
Assumptions: 1. Branden Albert is traded to the Dolphins for a 2nd and a 2014 midrounder. Essentially the Alex Smith deal. 2. The Chiefs trade down from 1.1 to 1.4 with the Eagles. The Eagles hand over a 2nd and a 4th this year, and a 2nd next year. The Chiefs give the Eagles a 6th. That gives us: 2013: 1.4: 2.35: 2.42: 3.63: 3.96: 4.99: 4.101: 5.134: 6.170: 6.204: 7.207: 2014: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th (assuming the Alex Smith & Albert deals cancel each other out) 3. Andy Reid packages 2.35, 5.134 and a 2014 5th to move up to #30, a trade with the Patriots, of course, and leapfrogs both Super Bowl teams. 4. Andy Reid packages both 6.170 and 7.207 to up for 5.152 and a 2014 7th. That leaves us with: 1.4: 1.30: 2.42: 3.63: 3.96: 4.99: 4.101: 4.152: 6.204: 2014: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 7th Fun times. 5. The first three selections go thusly: 1. Philadelphia Eagles: QB Geno Smith, West Virginia 2. Jacksonville Jaguars: OLB Dion Jordan, Oregon 3. Oakland Raiders: DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida On with the show: 1.4: OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M 1.30: WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson 2.42: DE Kawann Short, Purdue 3.63: RB Johnathan Franklin, UCLA 3.96: OLB Michael Buchanan, Illinois 4.99: ILB Nico Johnson, Alabama 4.101: OLB/ILB Sio Moore, Connecticut 5.152: SS Robert Lester, Alabama 6.204: OT/G Jordan Mills, Louisiana Tech |
QB: Smith, Daniel, Stanzi
RB: Charles, Franklin, Gray, Droughn FB: D'Imperio WR: Bowe, Hopkins, McCluster, Avery, Baldwin TE: Moeaki, Fasano, Brock LT: Joeckel, Stephenson LG: Allen, Schwartz C: Hudson, Patterson RG: Asamoah, Schwartz RT: Stephenson, Mills DE: DeVito, Bailey NT: Poe, Powe, Toribio DE: Jackson, Short OLB: Hali, Moore ILB: Johnson, Sturdivant ILB: Johnson, Moore OLB: Houston, Buchanan CB: Flowers, Smith, Robinson, Arenas, Menzie S: Berry, Abdullah, Lewis, Lester K: Succop P: Colquitt LS: Gafford |
Thats a lot of dancing for not much progress IMO.

Say what you will of Joeckel, but Hopkins is a legit threat. Almost every player drafted has stud starter upside: Hopkins, Short, Nico, Moore, Lester... Edit: Joeckel solidifies the LT at potentially an elite level. Hopkins gives the WR corps more lethality (new word?). Kawann Short provides insurance for Tyson Jackson, Moore for Dennis Johnson, and both Moore and Buchanan for Hali. Lester is a future starter at strong safety in a season or two. Nico's a day one starter. If half those players develop well, that's a very powerful draft. |
My Mock Draft after your trades:
1.4: Dion Jordan, OLB/DE, Oregon 1.30: Matt Elam, S, Florida 2.42: Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3.63: Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State 3.96: Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida 4.99: David Quessenberry, G/C , San Jose State 4.101: Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers 4.152: Zac Dysert, QB, Miami of Ohio 6.204: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina |
Jordan was already taken by the Jags, #2 overall. Sorry, Charlie.
What do you know about Armstead, other than the fact that he's an athletic freak? I always shy away from those players, because they are taken higher by braver souls than I. |
Totally didn't see your first three picks there. I'll fix it.
Can I trade down again? LMAO |
Armstead is a guy who I think has about the same ceiling as Lane Johnson. He obviously has a lower floor....but if I was Reid....I'd let Stephenson and Armstead battle it out in TC.

And think about all the moving around you could do with that o-line. You could keep Hudson at C or move him to LG. Quessenberry can be plugged in at C if he shows up in TC...or he can be the backup for the G/C positions. I'd honestly go with an o-line like this.
LT - Armstead, Stephenson LG - Asamoah, Quessenberry C - Hudson, Quessenberry RG - Schwartz, Quessenberry RT - Allen, Stephenson |
You also drafted Williams, FWIW.

The Jags drafted Joeckel at #2. Mock fail. |
Your first mock in this thread provides us with one upgrade at a starting position, and it's the least important position on the defense.
That's an abomination. |
I disagree. I think Hopkins is a genuine upgrade from Baldwin's regression. I think Short provides an upgrade over Jackson (by 2014...), and I think Berry/Lester will become an improvement over Berry/Lewis. And Charles/Franklin is the best RB tandem we'll have had since Johnson/Charles in 2009.
In the meantime, I've loaded the team in this mock with potential replacements of any 2014 departures, including of course Hali and Jackson. |
