I can't do that.

Simply Red 04-01-2012 09:23 PM

sugar is absolutely worse for you than marijuana.

KCrockaholic 04-01-2012 09:23 PM

Can't drink it either I guess...

I'm addicted to Full Throttle. Damn. I have at least 1 every two or three days.

Eh, once a week or so it's fun. I love cookies.

Sugar is a carb, BTW. :D

I was so excited this was on tonight. I've basically been doing this for the last 3 months and have lost almost 50 lbs.

Yep.

That's a good documentary to watch, but like all documentaries, it's trying to push a point and it sways one way.

Replacing fat with sugar is stupid, but that's what our government has forced by saying Fat will kill you.

RealSNR 04-01-2012 09:32 PM

Also, let's be real here.

Too much sugar is bad. But sugar won't kill you.

High fructose corn syrup is the nasty stuff to watch out for. At least more than sugar.

Simply Red 04-01-2012 09:33 PM

and I love sour candy, I'm not a huge chocolate fan, of course I don't hate it, but I prefer a sweet and sour candy of sorts. I had my final fix today w/ a box of Chewy Gobstoppers.

according to tonights chemist, they're not too different, after all. he went on to say they're basically the same thing.

Hi fructose corn syrup is fructose, which is the same as the sugar you're eating.

Stop eating sugar.

Simply Red 04-01-2012 09:37 PM

side note, but I'm really proud of you Buck.

KCrockaholic 04-01-2012 09:39 PM

What kind of workout plan have you been on Buck?

No way you've lost nearly 50 pounds by just cutting out sugar. There's gotta be some cardio in there too.

Thanks.

I'm getting my cholesterol checked this week. I've replaced my sugar with fat and also my carbs with fat.

We'll see if my diet is killing me or saving my life. I'm certain it's the latter.

Meanwhile, everyone lives to 80.

Sounds too good to be true, huh?

Workout plan is minimal. Pushups/Situps mostly.

listopencil 04-01-2012 09:41 PM

No, **** you, I'm not going to stop eating sugar.

Brock 04-01-2012 09:42 PM

Yeah but going through life fat and stupid is no way to live.

I mean, I was once so ashamed of my body I didn't even consider the prospect of having any kind of sex life. Think about that for a second.

Fair point, but I do think obesity is a different issue entirely from sugar hysteria.

morphius 04-01-2012 09:46 PM

Agreed....moderation is the key. I do think that along with moderation people should be more aware of what they are putting in their body and how your body reacts to it.

Unless you are ****ed by genetics like me. I look healthier than 99% of people but have been on high BP meds since I was 21. I couldn't do anything to control it. God damn parents are health nuts too, and none of us have ever been over weight. But we all have high BP.

I lost 75 lbs without jogging a block, lifting a weight or anything else, sitting in front of a computer monitor, studying and going to classes. Just, every time I'd get hungry I'd get some more ice water to fill my belly.

Weirdly, though, once I got to 195, I can't lose anything more, despite a prolonged sinus/viral thing where I consumed little more than water for weeks on end. Seriously I'd eat 10-12 peanut butter pretzels, or a couple sausage links, ambitious days I'd have a single meal of spaghetti and meatballs [I was so tired breathing through the mucus in my esophagus that cooking food was more tiring than I was hungry]. And I'd dip to MAYBE 193.

Start logging your food and send it to me after a week.

I'm betting it's sugar. My extremely high BP has lowered into the normal range since I cut sugar. Coincidence?

You don't actually have to worry about anything, really.

What is 'in moderation?', I mean, how do you two define that? I'd be interested in knowing.... Does this mean 3 cookies a week, 4 sodas and a piece of birthday cake? Or does this mean simply sugaring your coffee, daily and that's all?

You lowered your BMR. Your body got used to surviving off of so few calories that your metabolism slowed.

I have a bachelor's in health and human performance, I am a certified personal trainer and I competed in Olympic lifting and still workout hard. I know the research. I tried everything as well with diet modification and nothing worked. I do feel better when I am low carbing it though. Some of us are just screwed!

No, not straight keto but 50 grams of carbs or less per day for a few months on end. I do notice a bit better readings when eating like this. I am not planning on coming off my meds though because of these slightly lower readings. Good news is my cholesterol is awesome!
