Good memories...
Chiefs in a big comeback win against the then undefeated Skins back in 1971. Fantastic one-handed catch by Otis Taylor while his other hand was being held by the DB (Pat Fischer?) to win the game.

Leave it to Mikey to reminisce about a game that happened before most of us were born!

I hated Pat Fischer. He was a dirty player.
Hearing Cosell do the halftime highlights brings back some memories, too. Used to be the only way you could see footage of Sunday's games. |
Great game Mikey, I watched it with my Navy boss at the time who was a big Redskins fan. As you know the game coverage was very limited then, but being stationed in the Northeast a lot of the Redskins games were on the tube.

That and my weekly issue of Sporting News kept me alive. |

So yeah, it was sweet. :D But even at 21, I wasn't stupid enough to rub it in with the rest of the crew though. |
Thank you so much for posting this. I've heard Pops tell the story of that Otis Taylor catch a million times. He was at the game, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's never seen any video of it before. I'm gonna surprise him next time he's over, and put this on for him.

The only bad thing about that is we know how that season ended. :deevee:

I was at that game. I was in the "huddle club" in the end zone. Taylor made that one handed catch right in front of me. That's why I love him. It's a total CRIME that Otis and Ed Budde are not in the pro football HOF. Especially Otis Taylor. He'll probably have to die first, which is a damn shame.
Also... "The Jig of Delight????" Howard..... uh, you can't say "Jig of Delight" on national TV! |

Lenny could really chuck it, let that be a lesson to you kids out there... smoke a pack a day and you'll be throwing it like Lenny in no time!

That game broke my young heart. If the Chiefs had won that game against the Dolphins they probably would have gone on to the Super Bowl, and win or lose would have been a team that played in 3 of the first 6 Super Bowls...Quite an achievement for the day. I could not STAND the sight of the Miami Dolphins for many years after that season. |

The 4 Boys and Dad went off to the game, sat there for what seemed like an all day event, and drove home dejected. As a kid, I did learn a few new curse words that day. |
I still don't like the Dolphins. They crushed our souls in the playoffs twice. Once in KC, once in Miami. We owe them.
We also owe Indy a soul crushing playoff defeat. And Denver, we owe Denver a couple soul crushing defeats. And The Baltimore Ravens.... we owe them. And San Diego...we owe them. And the New York Jets....we owe them. We owe the entire AFC, basically. Man, now I'm really depressed. |

**** it. Payback time. |
Actually one of my earliest Chief memories. Was 7 years old. Dad went nuts. Called him today, and he remembered it as well. Thanks for a good Chief memory.
|
One of my all time favorite moments as a Chief's fan.
I wanted to start a thread to ask someone to find this. Yes it was Pat Fischer draped all over Otis and no flag for interference. |
That was such a great team. And since that day in December 71 this franchise has done nothing but step on it's collective dick. That catch by OT was great. But he made the circus catch seem routine.
I only saw the highlights on MNF halftime. Amazing what the NFL used to do in order for fans to NOT see the games. One of the big differences I oticed right away was how OLinemen had to keep their hands in. Compare that to todays NFL. |
Will never forget Christmas Day 1971. Heartbreaking. Not enough vodka in the world.
|
Elmo Wrights high steppin was ****ing awesome. Hadn't seen it in years. Thanks for the memory
|
Was seven years on Christmas Day in 1971. If it were socially acceptable, I would have begun drinking Vodka on that day.
