Soooo I guess we are fine at WR and OL?
I guess Pioli thinks we have enough at those positions.
WR - Bowe, Bradley, Engram, Darling/Webb/Copper TE - Cottam and Tony Curtis? OL - Albert, Waters (guess he will be staying), Niswanger, Goff, McIntosh? Maybe he thinks Herb Taylor and Barry Richardson are good enough. I dont know, does anyone think our offense might have gotten worse this offseason? Of course losing Tony G is monstrous and we havent replaced him w/ Boldin or anyone. We signed Goff, but thats it on the O line. Is anyone really comfortable with Niswanger at C and Big Mac at RT? |

In case you didn't notice about 24 WR's got picked in the 3rd round.

The B Rich era begins.

I think they're pretty much set at WR maybe they sign a Marty Booker type after the draft.

We have so many holes on this team, people will bitch about every pick.

You know, I am fine with this draft so far. Look at the AFC West. Both Denver and Oakland have question marks bigtime on offense right now... especially at the QB position. Our secondary could be spectaular pretty quick, and if the front guys can stop the run and force the pass, advantage Chiefs.
And LT is not what he used to be either, so I can see the Chargers starting to slide back to the pack a bit. I think we are making some reasonable strides to be a contender for the AFC West. |
Pioli is obviously working a trade involving Thigpen for Boldin straight up.
|
it's funny that people screamed BPA over need until they take the BPA and it doesn't fill a perceived need.
|
It's really a tough draft to understand. It looks like KC got their guy at #3 in Tyson Jackson, but it would have been interesting to see how far he would have fell if KC didn't fall in love with him. They didn't get back in the 2nd round like I thought they would, and picked another DE in the 3rd. Obviously they targeted the D Line as a need area....however it's frustrating for us as Chiefs fans because all we've done in the past couple of seasons is possibly waste picks to fix the D Line with selections like Ryan Sims, Junior Siavii, Turk McBride, Tank Tyler, Glenn Dorsey, Tamba Hali, etc. It's amazing to me that you have Dorsey, Tyler, McBride, and Hali, and we still have to spend the first 2 picks on D Lineman. Either the above players aren't very good/can't be developed, or our new regime doesn't have a good feel for the current players we have.
Either way, our offense has taken a step backwards with the loss of Gonzalez. He is nearly irreplaceable, and would have helped a young QB like Matt Cassel. Now they are relying on Bowe to step up, Bradley to stay healthy, Engram to squeeze out another year or two before he dies, and Darling and Webb to bring anything to the table. It will be interesting... |
We're bringing defense back, defense back...
|
I will bet next years draft will be almost entirely offense, with a WR in round one
|
We're definitely not fine there.
Is Shipley still on the board? We still need help at WR as well. |
Pioli was a defensive lineman in college. Pretty good one too. I think he understands both OL and DL positions.
|
You know, Pioli had some starters on the OL from the 5th round and lower in New England. The more I think about it, maybe he really does think Taylor and Richardson can be starters, and maybe he will pick up an OL in the 5th or 6th round today.
|
I guess we got good value with Washington, but if there was one area on the team that we were already solid at with young talent, CB was it. I'm shocked we didn't address the Oline at all with our 3rd or 4th picks. I was kinda hoping we would use both on the oline at least.
Well our fifth round pick is still a borderline fourth pick so maybe we'll use that to grab a Duke Robinson (why has he slipped this far) or AQ Shipley at Center or Jamon Meredith for OT (another guy who's slipping). At least two of those guys would be great value if they last to our fifth pick and definite positions of need. With so many needs, I don't see why a CB was our pick in Round 4. BPA is nice, but you have to take team needs into account too and we have soooo many. |
I pointed this out in another thread, but it fits here:
Kazcur - 3rd round Neal - undrafted FA Koppen - 5th round Light - left tackle, 2nd round (Albert's there already) O'Callaghan - 5th round Stevenson - 5th round Hilliard - 6th round Elgin - 7th round and the outlier.... Mankins, who was a guard taken in round 1 |
This team just had too many holes to fill. It looks like most of the holes on the defense are going to be filled, at least for the short term. If I had to leave one side of the ball strong and the other needing some help, I'd fill out the defense first. The Chiefs are not going to be world beaters by any means, but this team has a lot more talent than what we had last year.
|
We won't see Tight end play like we're used to seeing. I suppose Sackintosh could be servicable if we commit Cottam to cover his outside more than we did in the past. I really wanted a RT in the 4th but I also realize that rome wasn't built in a day.
|
It's what they did in New England, focus on the defensive line first...
Might not be sexy or exciting, but it's a good approach. Wish some of those past d-line picks had worked-out, or maybe we could be drafting something else this year. Either way, it's hard to hold them accountable for busted draft picks from long-gone coaching/front office regimes. I'm kind of wishing they had traded Dorsey now, though. Not because I don't think he can be good, but because I have a hard time seeing how he's going to fit, and because we can only play so many guys at a time. In the end, while it's a surprise to see so much focus on defense with an offensive head coach, it's not a terrible idea to fix as much as you can on that side of the ball and then dedicate future offseason work to bolstering the offense. And I think we've known all along the focus here really is on 2010, with the upgraded stadium opening... |
This team was 2-14. What don't we need?

God...I'm tired of the f'ing bitching over every pick. It's not like the Chiefs are set at DL, or CB or any other position. |

And we have a RT prospect now. Good pick.

Everybody here wanted Richardson last year and we got him - and he can't get on the field. It's a good pick. |

I think a better QB makes up for a HOF TE. I am not saying this is going to be a 'record setting' offense, but the Chiefs have some pieces to work with. The defense was attrocious and I am fine with what they have done. I like both of the DE's that they have taken. With Dorsey, they can all play all three line position and it gives the Chiefs a ton of flexibility. You can only do so much with one draft. |

They need to be competitive in 2010. Last year was a building block draft, they acquired their franchise QB this year and have given a lot of attention to the defense. Next offseason it'll be about filling in the remaining holes. This shouldn't be a 3-year turnaround. They should be above .500 the first year the "new" stadium is open.

Why don't we just bring Carl back? |

Did something happen to Carr? Flowers and Carr were great 1-2 combo in the secondary last year |
