Battleground: Rhino Wars

Has anyone watched this, or heard of it? Its about a team of american special forces operators who are in africa to combat poaching, they're armed and apparently have the green light to use them if need be.

The black guy Rob Roy (hilarious name for a black dude) is a former SEAL who's been on Deadliest Warrior and Ultimate Soldier Challenge, other than that i havent heard of the other guys.

But i just love, Love, LOVE this idea... as an animal lover who fears for the future of many different species on this planet, i hope they really put the hurt on these poachers.

It makes me sick that china, japan and these other asian countries just dont seem to give a flying **** about what their insatiable "traditional medicine" and food needs are doing to animal populations... if those people had their way, there wouldnt be a ****ing bear, tiger, rhino, whale, shark, elephant or rare fish left on the face of this planet... its like they want to just gobble them all up, to hell with sustainability, to hell with the future.

Its on now on Animal Planet, i hope they end up killing some mfers.

Watched some of 1 episode, but didn't see anything exciting. It seemed like it was going to be one of those shows where the talk and trailers about what they CAN do (use deadly force) is cooler than what you actually watch (guys watching natives and whispering in the bushes). Did anything actually exciting happen?

To be honest, thats pretty much spot on... heavy on showing them training and having tactics meetings, not much actual fieldwork.

It was the first episode i've watched, tried to get through the second one but it was pretty boring, so it got turned.

I still really do love what they're doing though, and i firmly believe way too many iconic, cornerstone species are being wiped out for antiquated, greedy reasons... i'm glad these guys are willing to fight about it, even if as a tv show the only thing i'm fighting is the urge to turn it LMAO.

I agree. Read up on the number of species that are wiped out daily from deforestation in the Amazon rain forest alone. Its incredible. Anybody that kills poachers is cool with me.

Also, if you're into that type of thing, you should check out The Cove. Its about the mass dolphin killing they're doing over in Japan. They corral a shit ton of dolphins into a small cove and drive around harpooning them all, just for food. Its ****ing crazy sad. Dolphins are some of the coolest ****ers on the planet. Makes no sense to do that to them.

Pretty sure i've seen a clip of that, the exact same thing actually goes on in Norway with whales... just herding them up like cattle and slaughterig them in shallow bays.

The thing is, i'm cool with most hunting, its responsible for human existence, i love that ancient cultures still maintain their old customs, harvesting whales and whatever... but its has to be within reason, it has to be sustainable and not threaten the animals existence... you get the feeling with some of these countries, especially in asia, that they will keep driving the trade for these animals through the roof, beyond that animals ability to produce.

Its like they'll stop at nothing for the last rhino horn or shark fin or tiger penis, or piece of ivory, or rare bear gall bladder, whatever... they're nuts.

Its a very noble idea, that makes for very boring tv... i suspect they dont actually have the latitude i was dreaming about... i wanted to see bumpy, real life, looking camera footage, dialed in on the poachers from the ambush positions :D
