Tamba Hali on Cassel

Tamba Hali ‏@TambaHali91
Matt Cassell haven't had a good quarterback coach since Charlie Weis and Josh McDaniels. we know what he did when that chemistry was there.

BossChief 02-10-2013 12:52 PM

How about his comments after the GB win in 2011 when Orton played and Hali was like "that's the first time in years we had a quarterback that did his job and gave the defense a rest"

Dude is just trying to be a good teammate with this stuff.

Already forgot what it's like to have to go right back on the field after the 8th straight 3nout because Cassel can't hit the broad side of a barn.

mcaj22 02-10-2013 12:53 PM

we need a real leader on this team because its clear guys like Tamba, DJ, Houston, Flowers arent made to be a leading veteran

Eric Berry has it in him I guess, but hes still young. And it certainly isnt Eric Winston. We need a veteran that will actually make ****ing sense when he talks.

Bowser 02-10-2013 12:54 PM

Good Guy Tamba sounds like Tony Gonzalez sticking up for Tyler Thigpen back in the day.

A Salt Weapon 02-10-2013 12:54 PM

I wonder what his thoughts are on defending a short field 5 minutes after defending an entire drive, after his boy casshole throws a screen pass for an INT?

except Tony wanted Thiggy because he was his #1 checkdown option iirc.

mcaj22 02-10-2013 12:55 PM

i dont think he cares. i think hes happy with his 70 million living comfortably just doing what he does. you saw how that defense just ****ed around dancing and whatnot during a losing season.

They dont have a drive to WIN like a 49ers, Ravens or Steelers defense. With veterans like that. Good players but they all got their money for the most part and are just doing what they do at a high level.

You have to take anything players say about their teammates with a huge grain of salt. Even great players. Tony Gonzalez wanted to ride with Tyler Thigpen.

This is why it's stupid that people ride Winston so much. I bet half the team felt the same way he did. He was the only one stupid enough to say it. Jamaal Charles didn't seem too happy with it at the time but nobody cared about that.

I love how the assholes on this team will just blindly defend him. So what Tamba is saying is that we need a complete perfect storm for him to perform. We need an all-universe line, a great QB coach and instead of him elevating everyone else's play, we need everyone else to raise the QB play.

If this is Hali's mindset, he can GTFO too.

I always thought it was odd that Sam Cassell would say "with 2 S's, 2 L's," after saying his name. Now we know that he was prescient and didn't want to be confused with Casshole in a few years. More proof that Sam Cassell is an alien.

Also, in Tony Gonzalez's defense, thiggy, for all his flaws, was a lovable ****er.

I don't necessarily know if it's "assholes defending him" versus guys just trying to be a decent teammate.

I have absolutely no problem with Winston standing up for his QB. That's what an offensive line player is supposed to do.

However, Hali should probably reconsider posting about offensive side of the ball stuff, especially when it's a trigger switch situation with the fans at this point. Just let stuff fall where they will and show up in shape without off-season problems like he did last year. They've got a brand new coordinator and he probably should be watching film of his games and the like versus tweeting about Cassel.

That being said, Cassel does seem to be a pretty decent guy who everyone like when he's not under center. I'm sure that all the guys on the team want a fresh start after the Peeholi reign of terror, but that doesn't excuse Matt's inability to effectively QB at this level. At this point of his career, he should be pretty damn happy with those 60 million dollars he got from KC and a few more years backing up Brady again. He was the main addition/cog for Peeholi and it's time for both parties to move on.

What it tells me is that they would rather support friends on the team than win. That's the message it sends.

Hali didn't have to say anything. He can love Cassel for all I care in private. Cassel can be a great guy who does wonderful things for the guys on the team. That doesn't mean shit to me on Sunday when he makes repeated bad play after bad play.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 02-10-2013 02:27 PM

Cassel was Hali's old faithful. When he couldn't score a sack anywhere else, he knew he could in practice. Sometimes a man needs an easy one.

Yeah he kinda did, which is just strange because they've been one of the better O-Lines in the league the last few years protecting Cassel, who's been one of the worst QBs in the league.

I dont get it Tamba.

He threw a whole unit under the bus to back up a terrible QB that is not coming back?

And just the fact that he doesn't see that our O-Line is pretty damn good is disturbing. Does he not understand that Cassel is just terrible? Does he not get that a great QB doesnt need a dominant O-Line?

And a fair chance Tamba? He's gotten FOUR years. 4 years to prove that he's not even a good backup QB. He got way longer than pretty much any other bad QB would get because our GM was a complete dumbass.

But he needs another chance?

Stupid Tamba.

I root for the good guys. And despite his lack of success as my favorite team's qb, he's undoubtedly a very good guy. And I've really hated the last few coaching staffs around here. I would feel vindicated if we found out he was actually a very good quarterback who was ruined by incompetent coaching. Joe Montana would look horrible under these guys. I'm pretty certain. So we probably never got a really gauge for how good Matt could have been.

I just dont ****ing get it.

Has there ever been a QB as bad as Cassel who gets as much support from dumbass fans, teammates and the local and national media?

It's mind boggling. HE'S NOT A GOOD QUARTERBACK. HE NEVER WILL BE.

He has no physical OR mental tools. He is not a starting QB in the NFL. He shouldn't even be in the league.

No offensive coordinator, scheme, coaching or players around him will change that.

He's been garbage his whole career, why would that all of a sudden change?

And WTF is up with this "He's a good guy" shit???

So tired of seeing that, what the **** does that have to do with anything? Why do people feel bad for a guy playing football for a living and making $60 million?

Yes. But in the process he kinda dogged his own O-Line. Multiple players that will be back this year. Multiple players that have actually been good at their job. Cassel won't be back and he's been a terrible QB for 4 years here.

I agree that he's been garbage for most of his time here. Just wish him well, because he's not a dick, and he's handled himself with class. Same reason I rooted AGAINST Ray Lewis last week. Ray is a douche, imo, and I hate when douches do well. I tend to think coaching is very underrated and players are vastly overrated.

I blame our coaching much more than I blame Cassel for our lack of success the past several years. Every so often you see a guy come through that clearly sucks and has no business being on the field. But Cassel isn't one of those guys. I think he's a "ho hum" slightly below average starter in the NFL, who was made to look pretty good with a decent scheme and talent, and made to look terrible with OUR coaches. And I would be happy for him if he went to a new (NFC hopefully) team and was very successful.

Isn't that supposed to be the QB's job? Even today, when you see Lenny talk, if he is with a teamate they yield to him. He was the leader of that team.

Seriously, you have to have a strong, charismatic, and capable leader in the huddle. A man that commands respect and people listen to him. That guy is supposed to be the QB.

Is there any wonder why our team is like a rudderless ship adrift in the vast NFL ocean?
