Jeff Chadiha Interviewed on 810 this morning -Interesting bits about Cassel and OC

Jeff Chadiha of ESPN was interviewed on 810 this morning and had some interesting bits about Cassel:

- He revealed that Haley told him that his father, Dick Haley (famous Steelers personnel man), upon watching Cassel practice told him "I don't think you can win with this guy"

- Was told by a source within the Chiefs that he trusts that Matt Cassel was still mistakenly calling out plays using Patriots terminology...in year two

- Was told that Weiss was not a Cassel fan at all (I know this isn't new, but yet another source confirming what we already know)

- Was informed by multiple sources around the league that the Chiefs OC job is not a prime destination because of the atmosphere created by Pioli, lack of confidence in the staying power of Romeo and the fact that Cassel is the QB

Very depressing interview....

So... the main thing is that it's not only the intelligence of CP that realizes Cassel Sucks.

Just wondering why we should listen to this guy. I've never heard of him.

Respected journalist from ESPN. Worked for SI before ESPN. He's often on Rome or other ESPN shows.

Good. I hope it's all true.

All this means is that Pioli has been given enough rope to hang himself quickly if he is in fact insisting on Cassel

This really, really depresses me.

The "exec of the decade" should be able to identify quarterback talent.

He's more concerned with trying to prove Cassel can play than actually winning games.

We finally have a 2nd, credible source corroborating Charles Robinson's comments on Weis thinking Cassel was a waste of time.

The evidence is mounting. Will Pioli hold fast and sink with the ship?

What's funny is that in the interview Chadiha used that exact same analogy (i.e. the Titanic) and said he believed that Pioli would in fact sink with the ship in an attempt to prove he was right all along

DMAC 01-26-2012 10:05 AM

We might as well have Jamarcus. Cassel sucks, he's stupid, and no one wants to be around him. But it's not his fault.

But, but, but...Charles Robinson's just some hack that throws shit at the wall!!!!

Oh wait, he doesn't do that at all.

Pioli's going to absolutely submarine this franchise. Look at how !@#$ing pathetic this division is yet we're not going to accomplish a thing because this asshole won't cut bait on his pet project and has built an organization that is so uptight and uncomfortable that he can't get any good coaches in here to take coordinator gigs.

This sucks worse than the 2-14 year. At least then you could see that we had some young talent and it appeared we only needed a new coach to unlock it. There was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Now we know that Clark's not going to fire this arrogant shitheel. We know we're stuck with Pioli at least for the next 2 seasons and if he manages to stumble into an 8-8 record one of those years, we'll end up getting him for another 5 beyond that. We'll get to live with a parade of mediocre coaches from "the tree" and half-assed attempts to deal with the most important position in organized sports.

Fantastic. Just ****ing fantastic.

redfan 01-26-2012 10:06 AM

Then he only gets 4 out of his 5 years and Romeo only gets one.

It's a real shame, too.

Pioli has made very solid moves with the rest of the roster and if he just gets rid of Cassel, signs Orton and drafts a quarterback in the first two rounds, he would be a golden god.

Wanna bet?

There's no chance in hell that Clark fires Pioli. If he bottoms out of the next 2 years, Clark may not retain him, but even then I'd give it a 50/50 shot.

Pioli's here for the full 5 no matter what happens.

Stanzi didn't even play in the last preseasong game. If he had am sure we would have had some form of compitition for Cassel, but they neglected that aspect during the preseason and only wanted Cassel to succeed regardless of how much suck he produced on the field. Total fail from Pioli & the rest of his staff. Am not thrilled either with Romeo not playing Stanzi in the last game of the season. Pioli ****s us all with Cassel.

Fine, it's true. I don't have a problem if the rumor was true. Weis didn't think Cassel could cut it, yet Weis was able to call plays that enabled Cassel to put up numbers that got him a pro bowl alternate spot.

The rumor was also that it was Haley who took Cassel under his wing and developed him.

Now follow along. Lots of people claim Haley was starting Palko to piss off Pioli and perhaps get fired. If Haley wanted to piss off Pioli why would Haley be so loyal to Cassel? If Cassel is/was Pioli's golden child, why was Haley also loyal to him?

Haley started Palko because he was a Pennsylvania kid and somebody that Haley could live vicariously through.

2 different people, with different viewpoints, close to the situation have told me different.

FringeNC 01-26-2012 10:50 AM

I think it's pretty clear Haley was fired because he wasn't aboard the Cassel Express. In Pioli's mind, Cassel is the franchise, a la Tom Brady.

ChiefsCountry 01-26-2012 10:52 AM

Cassel is Pioli's ego plain and simple. Cassel was hand picked by Pioli in the draft, then he traded for him and then gave him the big contract. Pioli is just a worthless fat ****er.

Haley was fired because he was a ****ing lunatic. There's a reason it came after the Jets game...

seaofred 01-26-2012 10:53 AM

I think Haley was fired, because he and Pioli just couldn't get a long. And the fact that Pioli has created an atmospher that nobody wants to work at shows that maybe just maybe Haley wasn't the problem.

Dayze 01-26-2012 10:54 AM

it wouldn't surprise me if Pioli hired Mark Mangino as the teams' strength and conditioning coach.

Haley was bat shit crazy thats the big reason he was fired. He might have also been pushed in that direction even farther by Scott "Egojanitor" Pioli.

I would feel more optimistic about the Chiefs had it been Pioli fired rather than Haley.

Edit: Look at it in context of the article. Haley is throwing Cassel under the bus for his time here. Rightly so. I'd bet a lot of money that the heat between Pioli and Haley was all about Matt Cassel.

In terms of the overall roster Pioli has done great.....It is the freaking QB position that has been his only issue IMO. How he runs the internal workings of One Arrowhead Drive I could care less if we are producing wins both in the regular season and in the playoffs. Fix the QB position Pioli!!!! :cuss:
