College/School Loans

Alright, who else has them, and how much do you owe. My fiance is going to have to take out loans for this semester and all of next year, and just for her school we will have at least 15k to pay back :( Now considering that total amount is for 4 years at a very Prestigious Nursing school in our area it's really not bad, but that's the amount even with her 3.9gpa and all her scholarships. Ideally we would like for her to work for a couple years, so hopefully we can pay them back in that time.

My school plans have had to once again be put on hold, oh well I guess, it's depressing how much school costs. I really would like to keep taking classes, but financially it just wont do currently. It's funny the kids who don't care about school get their parents to pay for it, and those who want to go to school cant pay for it. Yes I know there are student loans, currently I cannot get enough to cover my schooling and hers.

well, you asked. I've been out of postgraduate school (dental) for 18 years, and I STILL am paying on my loans. I have about 40K and change left. You dont even want to know what I started with.

I got paid to go to school my first year. Then I got a 3.3ish GPA and lost a big scholarship that required a 3.5. My parents had bought me a brand new Firebird with my college fund, so I took out some loans. Ended up with just over $20k in loans when it was all said and done. I graduated in December of 2003 and I have it almost exactly halfway paid off.

Consolidated the loan immediately after graduation and locked the rate at 2.625%, so it's really not that big of a deal. What's crazy is the default loan period is like 30 years.

For me? Well I still live at home, and for some stupid reason or other I am still considered a dependent. Apparently they raised the age from 23 to 24, or my school was mistaken the first time they told me. So I am not able to get hardly anything, I pay 100% out of pocket.

For her she has tons of scholarships, and gets some pell grant money, but this school is very expensive. It sure will look good on her resume, and it could have been much worse, but it's still a little chunk of change lol.

Holy shit. Mine was half that. Where did you go? I've heard more recent grads bitching about the cost, but that is ridiculous.

Around $26,000 -- I was a fool and never made any payments, towards interest, while in school.
I pay $200 a month towards it right now. Eventually, I'll increase the amount and maybe I'll get it paid off by the time I'm 50.

Lord have Mercy! I bet you make 6 figures a year at least though. Being a Dr/Dentist/Lawyer(not pro bono) you will easily make that money back.

If she's going to 4yr nursing school, there is no reason she can't get her RN at 2yrs and work while going to school.

El Jefe 03-15-2011 10:13 AM

Ohh man my buddy went to ONU for computer engineering, and he came out with a whopping 100k, he pays 750 a month, I don't know how he does it (obviously he makes good money, but still).
