Morena Baccarin Nabs Female Lead in 'Deadpool' (Exclusive)
1:19 PM PST 2/18/2015 by Rebecca Ford and Borys Kit

Homeland star Morena Baccarin has nabbed the female lead in Deadpool, Fox's action movie based on the Marvel character.

Tim Miller is directing the action-adventure project, which stars Ryan Reynolds as an assassin who undergoes a procedure to cure his cancer that ends up leaving him twisted and scarred but also imbued with superpowers.

T.J. Miller and Gina Carano are already attached to the project, which is eyeing a March shoot and is slated for an early 2016 release.

Baccarin was one of a handful of actresses shortlisted for the role of Reynolds' character's love interest. The character grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face.

The film is based on a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Simon Kinberg is producing with Lauren Shuler Donner.

On the film side, Baccarin will appear in Paul Feig’s upcoming action-comedy Spy opposite Melissa McCarthy. Her previous TV work includes Showtime's hit Homeland (which garnered her an Emmy nomination) and Fox's Gotham, on which she currently stars. She's repped by UTA, Seven Summits and Jackoway Tyerman.

It was the look in Homeland that makes you think that. That awful soccer mom haircut ****ed her whole face up.

Would still wood, though.

I've been wondering exactly that. I thought maybe she had some work done between firefly and homeland. She just looks a little strange to me now. But not unattractive.

Actually I think it was ads for the V remake (I never watched the series itself...) That first made me wonder.

Holy shit, she's Gideon on flash. I had no idea.

So you see Wanda Maximoff (scarlet witch) entrancing the Black Widow and her eyes turn red.
And the Hulk's eyes are red in the last trailer. That's why the Hulk Buster armor is needed.

Other than Logan remembering the future, nothing is set in stone. It is a open book.

But I still do not trust them to make great movies on par with with Marvels consistently. As much as I liked DoFP, it was average to me.. Hopefully they keep getting better at it..

DeadPool will be Sony/Fox's next cash cow, and they are counting on it since Jackman is hanging it up as Wolverine in the near future.

It's hard to get a read on how I feel about this movie. During that trailer there were moments of "that looks badass" to moments of "Seriously?". I'll probably see it because it's Marvel....but I don't know if it will be in the theaters or just waiting till it comes out on DVD.

Yeah. The whole tiny hero thing plays pretty cool in the comic books, but it's going to be weird in live action. Hopefully they pull it off. Trailer gives me hope.

I'm definitely not sold on it, but after my initial feelings of Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm willing to give this a shot. Plus, I'm a big Paul Rudd fan. Not sure that will be enough to get me into the theaters to see it though.

It's starting to look like the Hulk vs. Hulkbuster will live up to the hype.

And a Banner/Black Widow love story never happened in the Classic U or the Ultimates story lines, so that's new. Good way to mix things up and keep it fresh if they go that route...

There was a long preview (like 15-20 minutes) that included the entire opening sequence and people all over the web were complaining that they couldn't understand anything Bane was saying, so it was changed in the movie's final cut.

I think the weird thing with Ultron is that they apparently haven't done anything with Spader's voice.

ThaVirus 04-14-2015 07:50 PM

I liked the way they tweaked his voice in one of the very first trailers when he said something to the effect of ".. And now there are no strings on me". That sounded pretty eerie and badass.

Watching this most recent clip just reminds me of his character in The Office.

Deberg_1990 04-14-2015 08:01 PM

Yea, Spaders voice seemed a little off there? and i think he has a unique and interesting voice......weird?

I liked the joke Ultron made about "telling us his plan" Funny play on the obligatory villain expository dialogue scenes.

I would have to assume that they would because almost EVERY trailer has him speaking with the broken voice. It would be reeruned to have him sound like that in the trailers and then like a normal person in the movie.

Jamie 04-15-2015 10:50 AM

I sort of expected Ultron to have a robot effect on his voice, but I guess logically they're already established that a perfect artificial human voice is possible with JARVIS.

ThaVirus 04-15-2015 11:14 AM

JARVIS sounded a bit robotic, IMO.

Yep. And he seems to give up pretty easily trying to lift it, with that "well, darn" look on his face. Doesn't Cap wield Mjolnir in the comics at some point?

Somebody threw out the theory that Widow would pick up Mjolnir in the movie, since she outright refused to take part in the little game. Interesting theory....

Aries Walker 04-15-2015 02:23 PM

Yes, he does. I maintain that he could lift it, but he's faking.

ThaVirus 04-15-2015 02:28 PM

I'm not sure if he's faking or not but they're probably saving the reveal for a more epic occasion. It would be pretty anti-climactic for him to lift it for the first time in Stark's living room. I'm thinking mid-battle with Thanos or some shit would be far more appropriate.

Jackman is on his way to a heart attack. He abuses himself for the Wolverine role.

Evans said that for the Winter Soldier, they had to shoot the scenes where he was in t-shirts first, because after all of the filming in the costume, he had sweated out so much muscle mass, he was visibly scrawnier.

Now mind you, I would gleefully murder any five strangers to look like even the scrawny version of Chris Evans, but still.

Well, yeah.

He's there to promote a super hero movie (hopefully enjoyed by all but clearly made for kids or the young at heart) and he starts getting grilled about family issues and being in prison.
