Shoveling snow and drifts

I thought I would get round one of shoveling out of the way so I thought I would pose this question for the board. The wind is coming out of the north and I can only shovel snow to the north or the south since my driveway runs east/west; should I shovel the snow to the north or the south to prevent really big drifts from forming on my driveway?

Thanks,

Fat E

Is this a trick question?

You're gonna need one of these by the time it stops falling....

Best answer:

Let the sun melt it away later. Shovel enough to have a path to get out of your house. Anything more is just showing off.

South. A large pile to the north will break the wind, causing any snow that it is carrying to fall right into your driveway.

Assuming he lives in KC, that would be the correct answer.

Thank you. That is what I thought, but I was wondering if shoveling it to the south would cause a buildup making the snow fall behind the pile rather than over it.

It will, but not to the degree shoveling the pile to the north would.
