Reports from KJR 950 Seattle says the Maloof brothers are finalizing the sale of the Kings to Chris Hansen of Seattle. Hansen has already finalized an arena deal with Seattle, and King County. Great news for Seattle basketball fans.

Kansas City's problem is we never had an ownership group. Not exactly AEG's fault there.

KC had a outside chance until Oklahoma City got a team.

Sucks for them. They could've had Westbrook/Durant.
Instead they will have the Kings lineup.

As part of this deal, the NBA should send Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka and Nick Collison to Seattle and send the the Kings roster to OKC.....ya know, since the SUPERSONICS drafted all of those players and got them stolen away.

Can you imagine if the Chiefs drafted our QBOTF who turns into an elite NFL player only to have a team from cowtown OKC steal them from us?

I really feel for the Sonic fans. At least they are getting their team back.

Whether it's the NBA or NHL, there is absolutely NO excuse to not have a professional sports team in the Sprint Center. NONE.

It makes a TON of money without an anchor tenant, and AEG likes to act like it doesn't matter to them if there ever is one. Which is bullshit. They aren't taking everything into consideration.

This town could support either, and saying otherwise is just more bullshit. KC is a completely different town than it was when either the Kings or the Scouts were here. It's a much better sports town. We sell out every pro soccer game, for ****'s sake. The Missouri Mavericks are a hit in Independence and no one has ever heard of any of their opponents, let alone the league that they play in.

We need a premiere winter sport.

There was an article posted a while back that listed the most over-extended sports cities in terms of population/disposable income and number of sports teams... and if KC added an NHL or NBA team, they would be on top of that list. The interesting thing is, IIRC, Denver was on top of the list, even though I thought they at least did a decent job of supporting all of their teams.

I've love to see a hockey team here, but I wonder how many people would be willing to put down money for 41 home games plus playoff games... it's a pretty big investment, not even including the high dollar seats on the glass.

It is a great arena that does great business. Its not like this is the arena version of metro north mall.

This situation is a lot better than having a team in there that might not be well supported.

Yeah it was. I live in Northern California. About two hours North of Sacramento, where I lived from early 1988 to mid 1995. After looking at this thread I found an article about it online and posted a link to it on FB so I can witness the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I'd think something would have to suffer, beyond putting pressure on other local teams to do well. And of course it's one thing when it's a shiny new team or highly successful, and completely different when you're looking at these price tags and your team hasn't made the playoffs in a few years...

People in Kansas City love the idea of having things.

The owner and GM who moved the team made all of the moves to make the team better. Had Seattle approved the arena deal 5 or 6 years ago they would have them.

There was a hardcore fanbase that was pissed from day one like Flop, and I feel for those fans. The major uproar began when the Thunder became the darlings of the NBA.

However, Seattle is doing the same thing to Sacramento that OKC did to Seattle. The same thing that Sacremento did to my Kings when I was 12 years old.

It's business and the community made the decision. If the Thunder weren't making the playoffs would you still want those players?

In other Seattle sports news the MLS schedule was released today and the Seattle Sounders and Colorado Rapids play eachother on 4/20. LMAO

I'm speaking of the past about the day we lost the KINGS, no one gave a shat.

The Kings were pretty terrible except for a three year stretch. I saw some great games and great players when they were here for sure. I saw Tiny Archibald take them to their first playoff series in 1975. They lost to the Bulls. Tiny tore his achilles the year before and they finished about 20 games under .500.

The playoff series with the Suns in 81 was awesome. Winning the 7th game on the road with Wedman and Otis Birdsong and Sam Lacey was fantastic. Losing to Moses Malone in the Western Conference finals was not as awesome.

Was at their last home game. The Lakers came to town on the last day of the season. Everybody was there to see magic and Kareem. The Lakers left Magic at home to nurse a knee and Kareem didn't play/travel because of a migraine.

Didn't matter. The Kings kept it close until the late 4th quarter. Wilkes, Cooper, Worthy,McAdoo, Byron Scott were enough. And they still had Kupchek, Mike McGee, Rambis and Ronnie Lester on the bench. Sick roster.

I remember the PA guy took a line from Don Meredith and said "Turn out the lights, the party's over" as we left.

The Maloofs didn't own the Kings when they moved from Kansas City. They owned the Rockets at that time.

You are selling a team to a guy with OKC roots. There were rumblings the day he bought the team they were moving. He said he would stay if he got a first class arena. He says his intention was to stay there. probably not true, but if they vote for an Arena he cant move.There was a vote for an Arena that was turned down. They voted for an arena and are getting their team back.

Again, if the Thunder weren't one of the best teams in the NBA the majority wouldn't care, and Seattle probably wouldn't have approved an Arena deal now.

They lied to delay and came up with bogus excuses as to why the Sonics couldn't remain in Seattle. Watch the video. The only people that SHOULD Care are old Sonic's fans, they feel like they got ****ed, but they also gotta put up money for the arena if they want the team to stick around. Its gotta work both ways. Its also the reason why the Kings are going to leave, the city doesnt want a new arena and arco arena is a ****ing dump.

I say good for Seattle. I'm glad to see that city get an NBA team again. I'd like to see them call the team the SuperSonics again.

It sucks for Kansas City that we can't get an NBA team here, but without an owner willing to buy a team and move it here, there's not a whole lot that can happen.

If the NBA abruptly announced that they were going to put an expansion team in Kansas City, that would be a hell of an off season for this town.

I think KC could support a good team like OKC has, but not a mediocre team or a bad team. Not for long anyway.

The city of Seattle has the rights to the name SuperSonics. It was the only thing left behind. That one who sucks the penis Bennett even took the '79 Championship trophy. What a dick.

Agree, though I would feel skeptical even without SKC around. Hockey and soccer fans interlink a lot more than soccer and NBA fans.

I appreciate the sentiment, and we would've have gotten Durant, as long as Stern rigged the draft for us the same he did for Bennett, but the OKC ownership group put that team together. The nutless wonder, Howard Schultz would've never paid the coin to put that team together, because he's a piece of shit. Give us the damn jerseys, team color, and name back and I'm good.

The **** I don't. The Sonics were my 3rd favorite team in all of sports behind the Chiefs and Washington Huskies when they were ripped away. I supported them losing the same as I did the Chiefs. You've been as gracious as humanly possible throughout this whole thing. You are every bit of a Thunder fan as I was a Sonic fan. I'm happy that you have the ability to experience some of the things I experienced as a fan for as long as I did. An OKC/Seattle rivalry is immenent if Hansen puts forth the resources to build the team as he has to build the arena, and the rights to get a team back in Seattle. That will be fun. And don't be surprised when I say it's the old Sonics vs. the new Sonics. :D

I'm happy for Seattle. It's obviously a great sports town. Yes, the rivalry will be ****ing epic. It wouldn't surprise me if the put the Sonics back in the NorthEast and shifted some teams around. I guess it's never going to make complete sense no matter what they do.

I used to think the Hornets would move to KC, but now that Benson is there no chance. Maybe another team will come along.

Funny enough, if they keep the same name it would be an ideal match. Seattle Kings. Those two go together.

Why would they do that? It would make more sense to switch OKC and Seattle. OKC is neither North or WestI guess they aren't Pacific either but it would make sense for Seattle.

The Kings are a traveling whore show. Rochester, Cincinnati, Omaha, KC, Sacramento. They go to a city for around 10 to 15 years, then leave. So Seattle will probably get them for about 10 years, then they'll be on to wherever the next meal ticket is.

Except Bennett lied to Schultz and said he'd keep the team in Seattle. I doubt Hansen will say his intent is to keep the team in Sacramento.

So Shultz says. Had that been a condition he should have written it in. He came out saying his intent was to stay in Seattle, but he wanted a state of the art facility.

From what I'm hearing around here......the majority of fans are glad they're ****ing leaving.
