Today's Florida News: Lemur Attack!!!
"This is the first time I've ever been dispatched to a call like this," North Miami Beach Sergeant Richard Rand told WSVN 7, referring to a bizarre attack early Monday morning.
In a quintessential 'Only In Miami' incident, thieves failed to successfully steal two pet ring-tailed lemurs, which then escaped from their cage, ran amok on North Miami Beach streets, and then attacked a child as she exited a car. Fortunately, the two-year-old girl is OK. "She has a scratch on her face, she wasn't hospitalized, her parents were on scene," said Rand. "They were scared, that's it, they were running around, everyone was chasing them, a lot of lights, they were scared," lemur owner Julio Hincapie told NBC6. Rand told CBS Miami that when he first got the call, he thought it was a prank by his fellow officers. Florida Fish and Wildlife officials are investigating to make sure the lemurs' cages are sufficient to thwart another attack like this one. |
