Rate Pioli's Draft Pick By Pick

Grade Pioli's drafts.

People have funny expectations about drafts. I'll leave it at that.

Jerrell Powe needs to play more. I think he can be better than Poe if he was treated the same in getting practice reps and game reps.

I believe that a good coaching staff could flip a lot of those F's into C's and B's.

I agree.

I love the talent on this team but with Cassell and Crennel as HC, just those two kill that team.

I think it's important to grade relative to their draft spot. For instance, more weight should be given to a player drafted high that underperforms. Same with a player drafted low that overachieves relative to his position.

I'm not gonna do 2012. Too early to tell...

2011

1. Jonathan Baldwin D- (I don't know if he sucks or if Cassel refuses to look his way)
2. Rodney Hudson C (decidedly average)
3. Justin Houston B+ (looking pretty good thus far)
3. Allen Bailey D+ (meh)
4. Jalil Brown C (been okay considering he was a 4th rounder)
5. Ricky Stanzi F (what's the point?)
5. Gabe Miller F (who?)
6. Jerrell Powe C- (not awful)
7. Shane Bannon F (nope)

2010

1 Eric Berry C- (had one good year, got injured, having sub-par sophomore year)
2 Dexter McCluster D- (either he sucks or the coaching staff is awful)
2 Javier Arenas D (bad fulltime CB, not an atrocious nickel, not great on returns)
3 Jon Asamoah B (solid lineman for a 3rd rounder)
3 Tony Moeaki C (see Eric Berry)
5 Kendrick Lewis C (having a bad year but doesn't look to be awful overall)
5 Cameron Sheffield F (facepalm)

2009

1 Tyson Jackson F (there is no bigger failure than this pick right here)
2. Cassel D- (only thing that didn't make this an F was his one decent season)
3 Alex Magee F (bad pick)
4 Donald Washington F (furk)
5 Colin Brown F (again, furk)
6 Quinten Lawrence F (poop)
7 Javarris Williams F (peanut)
7 Jake O'Connell D (for a 7th rounder...well, whatever)
7 Ryan Succop B+ (kickers are kind of a dime a dozen, but he's been solid)

If you were to assign a GPA, it would grade out to a 1.08 on a 4.0 scale.

Pitiful.

BigMeatballDave 11-15-2012 04:30 PM

I see Houston is being overrated a bit.

Maybe a B. Way too soon to give him an A at this point.

i based Pioli's grade on these ****ups:
A second rounder for Cassole,

TJ pick was a terrible pick

Eric Berry looks like shit compared to Earl Thomas

and Poe was a terrible choice.

I should have bumped TJ down to a D. He hasn't been a disaster, but that's not nearly good enough for a 3rd pick.

I don't care about the Berry choice. We all wanted it and I think hindsight is 20/20 if we criticize the pick now. I still think he can improve with better coaching.

Poe was a terrific pick, in my opinion. It's the gamble Pioli has refused to make. But too little too late. He plays a position of high positional value. And he has a very unique skill set. That's better than all the safe picks Pioli has continued to make. With better coaching, Poe has the upside to be a Vince Wilfork type guy, which I'd take in an absolute heartbeat.

My head isn't in the sand. I have no delusions about Stanzi.

I am not going to argue against the Chiefs taking a chance at a QB, especially one who fell below where he probably should have. The 5th round was a terrific value for Stanzi. You expect that a 5th round QB is going to have high bust potential. It was a great pick, even if it didn't pan out (and we're assuming it didn't pan out, by the way, based on some preseason struggles).

2012 INCOMPLETE--But so far, I only like Poe.

1. Dontari Poe
2. Jeff Allen
3. Donald Stephenson
4. Devon Wylie
5. DeQuan Menzie
6. Cyrus Gray
7. Jerome Long
7. Junior Hemingway

2011

1. Jonathan Baldwin -F, but hard to evaluate with crapastic QB
2. Rodney Hudson -D
3. Justin Houston -A+, but they are using him wrong. Needs to rush passer more
3. Allen Bailey -A. The best DE on the roster with two former top 5 picks.
4. Jalil Brown - C-
5. Ricky Stanzi - F. Couldn't beat out Palko last year. Can't beat out Cassel and Quinn this year
5. Gabe Miller - F
6. Jerrell Powe - B. In his limited time this year I have been impressed. I think he could be a starter if it wasn't for Poe.
7. Shane Bannon -F

2010

1 Eric Berry -B- Struggled for handful of games. Then became probowl level SS. Injured for year on cheap shot. REALLY struggled this year but over the last 3 games he's been very good.
2 Dexter McCluster -F-----. Hate him. Hated the pick. Hate the player now. Terrible drop rate. Caused a few INT's with his propensity to tip the ball up to the DB's
2 Javier Arenas -D. Just not that good. Terrible spot to draft a NOT THAT GOOD DB that can't take the ball to the house as a returner.
3 Jon Asamoah -C
3 Tony Moeaki -C. Draft an injury prone TE in college and what do you expect. Very good 1st year. Injured second. Bad 3rd year.
5 Kendrick Lewis - D. I'm sorry to the Kendrick Lewis fans but he's a terrible tackler and he makes some plays on the ball but he gives up a lot too. Injury prone.
5 Cameron Sheffield -F

2009

1 Tyson Jackson - F----- Worst 1st round pick I've seen in a long time for the Chiefs
2 Cassel. F-----Worst QB in the league.
3 Alex Magee - F
4 Donald Washington F
5 Colin Brown F
6 Quinten Lawrence F
7 Javarris Williams F
7 Jake O'Connell F
7 Ryan Succop C. I like him. Think he's a good kicker. But should have never had to draft a kicker here if you'd resign your quality players.

Agreed. Not Stanzi's fault that even Joe Montana would have been benched so that Cassel would get all of the work regardless of how bad he was. **** You Pioli.

2009 is one of the worst draft's in nfl history

to have the 3rd pick in every round and draft F+++ with every single ****ing pick (except for the last one) is mind destroying...

Stanzi is so good that Pioli cant even force one of his drafted Iowa players into a ****ing backup role... with dogshit at the position.

He's probably lucky Tanney injured himself and was put on IR. Clipboard duties next season is probably going to be Stanzi vs Tanney. My money's on Tanney.

JFC, I will never get over how ****ing horrific the 2009 draft was.

I don't know if a person could do that bad if they were trying to screw up.

This is a pretty realistic take. I'd give Moeaki a C and maybe Arenas too, but other than that pretty spot on.

Pretty much, when Mr. Irrelevant is the best person from your entire draft there are serious issues.

Houston.

Berry is marginal.

Everyone else is a complete bag of ****ing shit, and, collectively, they more than justify Pioli's dismissal, assuming Clark is done watching soccer.

mcaj22 11-15-2012 07:18 PM

im starting to think Baldwin is a worse first round pick than Jackson all things considered. And that is sad

Hammock Parties 11-15-2012 07:21 PM

You're just being a hater if you don't give the Asamoah pick an A.

He's a good starter at RG. From the third round. Great pick.

Chiefnj2 11-15-2012 07:21 PM

I can't believe all of the idiots giving a "B" grade or lower to Eric Berry.

I'm giving Baldwin one more year.. Some WR's take a while to develop..D Thomas for instance.

Hammock Parties 11-15-2012 07:23 PM

The Jeff Allen pick is in no way anything but an F at this point. He is disgusting.

He's an "A"? Based on what? I agree that poor luck on negatively affected this pick, which is unfortunate, but his production has certainly been no higher than a "B," which would be generous.
