I would too but nothing more than a 2 year contract.

Yeah obviously with his track record, I'm not saying we should throw the bank at him. He's a baller though, we should kick the tires for sure.

I'd rather take Shields

You can't have a team filled with choir boy stiffs, but character absolutely does matter. I want no part of Talib. You can't depend on him, and he is good enough nor consistent enough to allay that risk.

How about we sign Titus and Talib for the talent, and than acquire Tebow for the character? That's gotta cancel out all the negatives out right??

Legal tampering period launches on March 9

For the NFL, the ball drops at 345 Park Avenue on Tuesday, March 12, at 4:00 p.m. That’s when the 2013 league year begins.

This year, the clock strikes twelve — sort of — three days earlier.

From Saturday, March 9 through Monday, March 11, teams will be allowed to negotiate with looming free agents, by communicating directly with their agents.

Based on a calendar of key 2013 dates the NFL has circulated, the negotiating window apparently closes at midnight ET on Tuesday. Then, 16 hours later, contracts can be negotiated and signed.

What it means is that, starting at midnight on Saturday the 9th, reports will surface of agreements in principle. Technically, they’ll be unenforceable. And it’s possible that there will be some double dealing and reneging and other intrigue, with reports of agreements with one team leaked in order to push other teams to getting deals done.

Regardless, the real negotiations will begin at or about the Scouting Combine later this month. That’s when the illegal tampering always begins, and everyone does it.

And they’ll continue to do it unless and until some unlucky team gets caught and receives the bounty treatment, absorbing a penalty so significant that it scares everyone else straight.

At least for a little while

Surprising move here, I think: Giants cut LB Michael Boley today.

Four years of service is the dividing line for the players being released

Now that the offseason finally has begun and rosters have unlocked and players can be released, there’s an important distinction that becomes relevant for the first time since late October.

Any player who is released with less than four years of service must pass through waivers, with his current contract eligible to be claimed by any other team. Any player who is released with four or more years of service becomes an unrestricted free agent immediately, free to sign with any other team at any time.

For example, Lions receiver Titus Young went through waivers, and he was claimed by the Rams. Lions defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, in contrast, will become a free agent. And he can now sign with the Rams, or anyone else he chooses to sign with.

As of the trade deadline, all players who are released must go through waivers, regardless of their years of experience.
