Most Pathetic Play In Chiefs History
Not worst play ever, as in the most significant bad play in Chiefs history.
I mean the one play in Chiefs history that was just so fundamentally terrible from a football standpoint, that it made you honestly question how/why the player(s) that committed it could have landed an NFL career. My vote: I believe it was 2007 or 2008, the last year or two of Herm Edwards. I forget who he QB was. The Chiefs were down to their last play in yet another losing effort to the Colts, but they were only down one score with about sixty yards left to go. The Chiefs go into a lateral-off, having several players lateral to keep the play alive until, hope against hope, one of them could break off and score. Brian Waters. Tony G. Then the ball gets to Samie Parker. Samie Parker dives into the turf, and crawls about three yards until a Colts player walks up and touches him on the shoulder, ending the game. Brian Waters visibly pissed. Somebody explains to Parker what the **** he did, and he smiles and laughs with his knees still on the turf. Beat that, Planeteers. (I'll get a "most impressive play" thread going after this one runs its course.) |
I'd be amazed if we have anything nearly as good as the butt fumble.
|
For me, it occurred with Haley's predictable play calling.
3 and 10, handoff to Jones. Posted via Mobile Device |
Jon Baker kicking off out of bounds THREE TIMES vs. Raiders at home under Gunther. Chiefs blow lead and miss playoffs. Raiders go to the playoffs instead.
|
Kimble Anders beach-balling a sure touchdown into an interception right before halftime in the AFC Championship game.
Also giving up like 50 yards on 4th and 10 to Elway on MNF after Stephone Paige's late 80-yd TD and it looked like we were finally going to win one. |

I'm not asking about significant mistakes: i.e. ones that cost us a playoff trip, or a Super Bowl. I'm asking about flat incompetency. There have been a million worse plays than Anders screwing that reception. |
Priest's costly fumble in the no-punt playoff game against the Colts.
|
Pretty much any Matt Cassel pass
|
Cassels interception vs SD on the dump off

When Bernard Pollard took out Tom Brady's ACL and set into motion a series of events that we are still recovering from.

Another wonderful thread from our resident champion of misery.

I know it's not one play, but I vote Herm sitting on the ball to preserve the win in a four win season, instead of taking a shot in the end zone so TG could set the yardage record at home. |

We're targeting hilarious incompetence. Priest's fumble happens every other week in the NFL. Quote:

Clay's post is a good one. But that screen pass against SD was also pretty apt. That's two for Cassel.
|
Any Cassel pick 6 in the flat.
|
The arizona Cardinals falling for the fake against Bono.
|
Steve Bono's fumble when the other team just took it out of his hands and ran it in for a touchdown.
I can't find video, but nothing comes close if you're looking for incompetence. |

Cassel blowing the handoff to Charles and then getting tackled.

Claythan - please break out the benny hill vid.

Although this probably does not count, for me it was Elvis Grbac's preseason game against the Packers. It was 4th and goal, Grbac scrambles and throws the ball away.
|
On the other side of the coin - one of the best sporting events I ever attended:

Chiefs at Broncos '90's...Chiefs up late...Dale Carter fields punt at 2 yard line runs sideways. Chiefs have ball at 2 not 20...on third down Barry Word runs out of bounds stopping clock. Chiefs punt from endzone...Elway marches short field to win.

I feel like I remember LJ not trying at all near the end of his Chiefs career, and just running into the backs of lineman a lot. I think he's the most pathetic player for sure.

Anybody remember the Louie Aguiar fake punt where he threw a 50 yard pass that the other team though was a punt ???? That and the Bono play are my alltime two favs.
For ineptitude just watch a Matt Cassel highlight clip. |
|
Let's see...IMHO, it needed to occur in a meaningful game...
Indy playoff game, 2003 -- bogus call against TG, J Morton's drop of a sure TD pass Dallas 2005, LJ's complete lack of effort pass-blocking at 1st and goal at end of half costing us a spot in the playoffs |
25 yard hail Mary off the crossbar. That's top 10 in league history.

That sounds hysterical. Must see a video of that. |

Oh this one is easy for more than one reason...
The Mark Castle interception to Eric Weddle on a screen pass that was mentioned earlier. Reason 1: It may be the most absurd pass that I have seen in my 33 years of existence on this planet. Reason 2: As an added bonus, he tried to put on his hat and missed his own head then looked like he was ready to start bawling like the bitch he was. That brief moment in time showcased the ***** era. We all already knew the Patriots West era was a mistake by that time (except for the head-in-the-sand "true fans") but seeing that pathetic display of bitchness during both the pass and the donning of the cap will haunt my nightmares forever. |

Someone post the gif of Cassel shrinking into the fetal position in world record time against the Bills when one of their linemen stunted and had a clean shot at him.
|
The entire 4th quarter of one of the Chiefs vs Chargers games in 2008. They were up by like 3 scores, and then blew the game, capped by Bowe flubbing an onside kick.
Another one I vaguely remember is like it was early 2005 I believe, game at Denver. Chiefs had LJ and Priest Holmes. Like 3rd play of the game or something, LJ ****ing gives up in the pile and lets a Bronco player take the football. |

Most of the pathetic plays in Chiefs history involve Matt Casshole.

Oh yeah, and who can forget our two tackles just flopping to the ground because of the dumbass o-line coach teaching them that? I believe it was Albert and Richardson, they both just flopped to the ground like they were going for some low block or something, it was pathetic as they didn't even make an attempt at an actual block, they just fell to the ground and the defensive players just hopped over them. I have no idea what game it was, but one of the awful lineman we had got like 3 holding calls in a row or something. I want to say Jordan Black but its hard to say. |

ya that 25 yard hail mary off the goal post might win.
There's been so many that I can't even think of anything. So many times, 3rd and long and we rush it up the gut for 2 yards. Or dump pass on 3rd and long for 5 yards. The Herm Edwards playoff game was embarrassing to watch. The Dewayne Bowe drop that would have beat the Colts is a play I remember. But we like D Bowe, so he can't have the most pathetic play ever. The 3rd missed field goal in that playoff game might be up there. |
Any FG attempt by Justin Medlock.

Without a doubt, it was this:
http://books.google.com/books?id=SSX...ed=0CEMQ6AEwAw Probably cost us another Superbowl victory. |
I think "he who shall go unnamed" missing three kicks under 42 yards could count as the most pathetic and incompetent game from a Chiefs player in history. Even if we ignore the huge implications and catastrophic result to our season, it would still count.

When was that when they fumbled at the 8 micrometer line to end the half? Early on last year?

Cassels screen pick against the Chargers does it for me. God damn he was terrible.
|
Allowing Tebow to complete two passes or any play in the Thigpen 4 INT game.

when castle threw it in a chargers hand on a screen pass to end the game

We were playing the Broncos at home in the mid 90's. Right before half, Bono drops back and starts looking, looking, looking..... he never sees the corner blitz from HIS RIGHT SIDE. The corner literally just takes the ball from Bono as he's holding it there waiting to pass, and runs 50 yards for a touchdown. Good lord.

PALKO!!!!!!

Someone could splice together an hour game of Chiefs' LOL moments. Greg Robinson moments might dominate.

The Giants' RB who got pass 15 missed tackels down the sideline. I'm startin to get sick to my stomach.

Have any of the Lin Elliot kicks vs. the colts in the playoffs been nominated? If not, I go with those.

Elvis spiking the ball on fourth down comes to mind too, though I don't recall if that was a preseason game. Not that it matters for this discussion. Or you know, I don't remember the particular play, but the play that may have made me the most angry as a Chiefs fan was Herm Edwards playing conservative in overtime against Peyton Manning's Colts and then punting to PEYTON MANNING, assuming he was going to win a field position battle or something. That series tipped me over the edge from being patient to being stridently anti-Herm and Carl. While there was no particular play, I would also offer the following three things: Eric Hicks getting beat on a rollout for the 8,000th time. Greg Robinson's defense rushing one guy in order to give the quarterback several minutes to complete a pass. Paul Hackett always calling plays on third down that had no routes past the first down marker. |

2006 - overtime with Cleveland and Greg Wesley (I believe it was him) completely blew a tackle on Derek Anderson who scrambled for a huge gain. If I remember right they ran a couple of plays and then kicked the game-winning field goal. I was so pissed that I broke my remote control and threw away the Chiefs shirt I was wearing that day. Man, I used to be so passionate when it came to the Chiefs, that losses like that destroyed me. The last seven years have numbed me a bit to painful losses. And blowout losses too I guess.

The play in the Ravens playoff game where Cassel literally had about 10 seconds and a perfectly clean pocket and he throws the ball to Moeaki, who was in double coverage, and it's picked.
I think Clay has the gif. |

I'll forever wonder what in the hell it was that the Radiers did to Cassel the week before to cause him to completely revert back to the shitstain he ended up being the rest of his time with us. |
