I'm really glad they rescued that dude, he's a damn brave SOB. Now that that's done, I'd say it leaves two pressing questions.

1) How long until the movie comes out?

2) Who plays the part of Captain Phillips?


I think the movie will be out by next spring. I don't know enough about actors to guess the second answer but I know you guys do.

U.S. Navy snipers opened fire and killed three pirates holding an American captain at gunpoint, delivering the skipper unharmed and ending a five-day high-seas hostage drama on Easter Sunday.
Capt. Richard Phillips was in "imminent danger" of being killed before snipers shot the pirates in an operation authorized by President Barack Obama, Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said.
He said the pirates were armed with AK-47s and small-caliber pistols and were pointing the rifles at the captain when the commander of the nearby USS Bainbridge gave the order to open fire.

uhhh the military had authority to take them out at any time since Friday. It was a decision of the military commander on site when to launch an assult, not the presidents.

Good for the Navy Seals.

And bad for Obama wanting to have the pirate captured and tried in the USA where he will receive USA citizens rights where some liberal will want to have the soldiers who killed the other pirates subpoenaed to where their names get revealed all over the world which will put them and their families in danger and could possibly lead to another terrorist plot on something.

What Obama needs to do is release this ****er to Kenya who wants to deal with him. They will cut off his body parts and shit like that.

But don't let logic get in the way of a chance to kill Robert Downey Jr. in a movie! ;)

The operation to rescue Capt. Richard Phillips involved dozens of Navy SEALs, who parachuted from an aircraft into the scene near dark Saturday, landing in the ocean. The SEALs were part of a larger group of Special Operations Forces involved in the effort, according to military officials.

Meanwhile, one of the pirates, estimated to be between 16 and 20 years old, asked to come aboard the Bainbridge to make a phone call. He had been stabbed in the hand during an altercation with the crew of the Maersk Alabama and also needed medical care. "He effectively gave himself up," said a senior military official. The Navy then allowed that pirate to speak with the others in hopes that he could persuade them to give up.

"In the last discussion, they said 'If we don't get what we want, we will kill the captain,' " the official said.

Soon afterward, two pirates moved to one of the hatches of the lifeboat and stuck their heads out. The third pirate advanced toward the captain, and pointed his AK-47 straight at Phillips' back, the rifle touching it or inches away, the official said.

U.S. military observers believed that Phillips was about to be shot. SEAL snipers, who were positioned on a deck at the stern of the Bainbridge, an area known as the fantail, had the three pirates in their sights. The on-scene commander gave the SEAL snipers authority to fire.

"As soon as the snipers had a clear shot at the guy who had the rifle, they shot him and the other two in the hatches," said the senior military official.

A member of the Special Operations team slid down the tow line into the water and climbed aboard the lifeboat. Phillips was then put in a small craft and taken to the Bainbridge.
