Video games and bandwidth

I mean what the flying ****!!! One of my kids friends brought over the new Borderlands game and installed in on our PS4. Even though it was a disk it then proceeded to download a ****ing 8GB update on top of the game itself. What was the point of having a disk if the entire game has to be dowloaded anyway. Now I feel like I have to purchase it just to justify the download. JFC:banghead:

Its getting harder and harder to manage bandwidth with what these game companies are doing.

Can't say I disagree. The way things are headed, I'd be surprised to see games on discs within the next 10 years. Bloodborne was close to 50gb. Thankfully PS4 allows the use of external storage devices.

Does your console allow you to play the games while not connected to the internet? If so a pretty easy solution would be to simply disconnect. That's my biggest gripe with Steam. You're unable to play standalone games like Bioshocke or Dead Space or whatever unless you are connected to the internet.

WTF?

i heard that the handsome jack collection is what im guessing he installed installes the downloadable content to the ps4. I read a thread it hink it might have been neogaf about why the download is that big.

What happened to the old days you could just pop the game in and play? They gotta over complicate everything.

Last night I got MLB the show and I put it in and it forces you to play a demo game, you can't do anything else. I was ready to throw the game out the window. Finally I realized it was installing in the background but that took like another two hours. I just wanted to play the ****ing game, it's a baseball game how hard is that.

What's the point of going to gamestop and buying the game I might as well just buy it online.

it takes like 20 min to install. I have the game. There is no more pop in and play, games use 30 gigs of data now days and tech cant run it fast enough anymore, its just too much data that has to load.

SSD drives for consoles might be next lol

8gb? That's 30 seconds - 1 minute on my connection. No cap~

Dont worry, more and more people are getting it every day. In a few years, we will all look back on the days of 10mb just like we do dial up now.

Dont be mad at game companies, be mad at shitty ISP's

its not the time, its the bandwidth it uses. since we watch a lot of streaming TV shows I don't have the bandwidth to spare for these ridiculous "updates" Put it on the disk damnit. Thats the whole point of buying a disk.

I looked into upping my bandwidth cap but the price Cox wants is just ****ing stupid. I currently get 50mbps speed with a 250gb bandwidth limit for $60. To up it to 300gb it goes up an additional 20 bucks. $40 to get to 400 gb. They don't even offer a unlimited option.

yep it was the handsome jack one. it should at least allow you to play borderlands 2 without trying to install the other content.

Once again, why should game development be pigeonholed because you have a shit ISP which limits the amount you can download?

ISP problem, not game development issue.

I don't want everything to be a download. I buy disks for a reason.

Actually you can play steam games offline, as long as they are downloaded. I go through this with my friend all the time. He refuses to go online to play and won't play a game unless it's single player. I used to be that guy, but just no way to avoid it now. I DO blame the shit ISP's that limit bandwith..**** At&T, **** comcast and anyone else that limits bandwith. SHitty ass piece of shit companies if u ask me.

So the reason a game takes so long to download is the internet speed? Who do you use, and how much?

Waiting for google fiber but I use Surewest which is now Consolidated Communications at 100mb unlimited download. Internet cost me $70/month but it's worth it.

Yea absolutely.. your internet speed determines how fast you can download..

I use co-mo net I have gigabit up and down fiber (1000/1000) for 100/mo, no caps or restrictions of any kind.

Discs are dying. They are the new betamax~
