We lost power at about 6:00 pm or a few minutes after, and only got it turned back on about half an hour ago. This time of year, blackouts really suck! I don't know if it got quite up to "microburst" levels, but it was awfully close. I don't know if it headed toward Springfield or not, but during the worst of it here, the winds were blowing from west to east, so unless it changed directions (entirely possible), it was moving away from you rather than toward.

Perhaps the strangest thing was, it wasn't even in the forecast! This thing just came out of nowhere. Half an earlier, it was literally blue skies (I had to close my blinds because of the glare from the sun on my tv screen). Then half an hour later, I hear a crash, look out, and the sky is almost black (have you heard writers talk about the sky "boiling?" Well, that's what it was doing), and stuff is just flying everywhere! Somebody told me Hazelwood (where I'm at) was almost the epicenter, so to speak.

Dark clouds from the North showing at 6pm...

Yep. in W StCharles county,

Winds blew, a few small 2" tree limbs down. rained big drops

Lighting hit about 1 mile away hard, power out at 7:36pm.

Rained pretty good after that and stopped after 20 minutes or so.

Cuivre River Electric coop had it back on at 6:10 am. Longest outage I can remember from them, very good service.

I picked up the tree limbs...

Ameron UE still has alot of folks in STL city/county without power now.

I'll bet Al Gore has something to say about this.

When I first called Ameren UE at about 7:00pm to get info on how extensive the blackout was, they said 362,000 customers without power.

God's way of telling people they shouldn't be rooting for the Cards. HEED HIS SIGN PEOPLE!

Official data is still coming in, but some of it is pretty impressive.

92mph straight line wind in Macoupin County, Illinois at 6:35 last night.

My power is still out, as is a lot of the area of The Hill, Tower Grove Park, and Mid-South City.
I got off relatively easy, as I got one huge branch [about 12-14 footer on my roof], and although it turned my satellite dish into a pretzel, it didn't break the roof or harm the gutters/soffits.
Next block over, different story. Several fences taken out, either by the winds or by trees falling on them. The alley is COMPLETELY blocked for 25-30 feet by a wall of tree limbs. Live wires draped over parked cars. And the coupe de grace, a utility pole suspended 4' off the ground, sheared from it's base and hanging by the connective utility wire, ready to break free and throw 30' of lumber and live wires into someone's back yard..

WOW... Glad everything is ok. No roof damage, inspection on the roof may reveal something different.
I saw the tree swaying and wondered if any were coming down.
I think our winds were about 50mph.

The Ameron power crews will be busy, as always.

When will they start a regional city/county conversion
to underground?
I'm so glad to be out of STL County and their control.

Don't know if you were referring to your roof or mine, but I got up there and gave it a good going over. We good.

I believe that first picture Dartgod posted was the Switzer candy building that partially collapsed onto the Eads bridge.

This morning Ameren said there were 480,000 houses without electricity.

Kinda glad I sold my tickets to last night's game.

I didn't have any damage, I was wondering about yours....anytime a big limb hits your roof....

My limbs (mostly dead wood) were all on the ground. May look for some loose shinges...
The W/N sides are surrounded by big Oaks and Hickory....

That reminds me of a storm that hit Nashville about a year ago. It was a mean mother f****r.
