I think you get five points if you spell your name right on the test form....

penbrook 04-18-2013 09:27 AM

Wow.

Bwana 04-18-2013 09:27 AM

Ouch

ptlyon 04-18-2013 09:27 AM

Shit, even blackmon could score higher!

Sorter 04-18-2013 09:27 AM

Surprisingly low. I wonder if he pulled a Claiborne and just started filling in bubbles.

Tavon's not exactly an easy name to spell.

What kind of score does the average American make? college graduate?

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 04-18-2013 09:30 AM

Well we know why Patterson went JUCO. Why do players even take this test?

With a guy like that, you could just give him any ol' paycheck and he won't know the difference. It saves all sorts of money.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-18-2013 09:49 AM

A team should have legitimate concerns about someone's ability to learn an NFL playbook if they score a seven on the Wonderlic. He's functionally illiterate.

Nah...
QB will just have to look at him in the huddle and say "Go Long" or "Post" or "Flag" or "Square Out." That's all he's going to be able to understand.

He is a WR. Like many scouts are saying, Tavon will be fine. I am pretty sure they won't make him do long division on the line of scrimmage.

gblowfish 04-18-2013 09:56 AM

actually not

Tavon Austin is supposed one of these utility players. He needs to know the RB and WR positions and will also be expected to know lots of shifts and check plays.

He plays a position that will need to be able to read a defense and adjust his play at the LOS along with the QB.

now maybe Austin just knows football and nothing else but it's still a concern.

I once took it as part of a job screening. I scored a 49.

The manager who administered the test was all flustered about it because she had a dream the night before that one of the interviewees would notch a perfect score. I guess I came close enough to count as a direct hit.

Have you seen the wonderlic? It's like a mini ACT exam. I'm sure his score isn't indicitave of his football IQ.

Meh. If anyone can show me a correlation between the wonderlic and how much a player produces once they're in the NFL, I'm all ears.

Tavon's tutor usually takes his tests for him, so this really isn't a fair benchmark....

This is the key. Has anyone ever really done that?

If a guy scores really low, does it reflect on his performance, or does it reflect the whole team's performance because the game plan has to be adjusted since that player's adjustments and recognition can't be trusted?

Or for that matter, does a low Wonderlic only matter if there are three of them on the field or some such thing? Maybe a team isn't affected with one less astute guy, but two is deadly. It's interesting to think about how it plays out.

I wonder if this is a direct connection to why these players blow all their money on strippers and jewelery and end up broke two years after they retire?

Yes. Football IQ and instincts are OK. Overall intelligence- not so much. That's just my opinion.

The Wonderlic isn't a proper gauge as to whether or not a guy will be able to learn an NFL playbook anyway. Off the top of my head, Donovan McNabb and Dan Marino both scored in the low teens and Ryan Fitzpatrick scored in the 40s. Not to mention the large number of skil position players that routinely score less than 15 yet go on to learn playbooks with no issues.

Yeah, it's not like anyone is allowed to say "this guy is a dumb****" anyway, so whats the diff?

J Diddy 04-18-2013 11:22 AM

There are multiple measures of intelligence and standardized tests are not a good indicator of such. For instance they don't take into account testing phobias, different ways of interpreting information, etc.

loochy 04-18-2013 11:25 AM

Maybe being dumb is the KEY to why he is awesome. His mind isn't cluttered with thoughts and stuff. He just thinks, "CATCH BALL!" and "RUN FAST...THAT WAY!" The rest of his brain is devoted to manipulating his nervous system to stimulate muscle fibers to carry out that mission in a perfectly orchestrated symphony that nobody can stop. I can live with that.

If they are left all alone with their money, maybe.

Some people just don't test we'll. I know my son is one of them. He would get A's on home work he turned in but a D on the test on the same stuff.

But he listens to me when it comes to money. He pays his bills, saves and has zero debt.
