Soccer in Brazil - Ref stabs and kills a player and the crowd then beheads ref

http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/14...brazil?cc=5901

Quote:

An amateur football match in Brazil led to two deaths as a referee was beheaded by spectators after he had stabbed a player.

The shocking incidents occurred in Maranhao, Brazil, last Sunday. According to reports, referee Otavio Jordao da Silva fatally stabbed footballer Josenir dos Santos Abreu.

Dos Santos Abreu is believed to have struck the referee after questioning a decision. In retaliation, Jordao da Silva stabbed the player.

Having witnessed the incident, an outraged group of spectators turned on the referee. He was tied up, beaten, stoned and quartered. They then put his head on a stake and planted it in the middle of the pitch.

One man, Luiz Moraes de Souza, 27, has been arrested over the incident. Police are searching for two more suspects.

Valter Costa is handling the case and, in a statement, he said: "One crime never justifies another crime. Actions likes this do not collaborate with the legality of state law."
VIDEO IS SO VERY NOT SAFE FOR WORK (possibly not safe for home, mobile device, internet cafe, or likely just life in general)

Spoiler!

Fire Me Boy! 07-06-2013 01:27 PM

The ref didn't have his head in the game.

Yeah right. He'd defeat this entire mob with his bare hands, then flex at midfield while giving a lengthy explanation about why the home team has forfeited the match.

You need to let folks know what is in that video way beyond saying it is NSFW, home or whatever....

ROFL I know several people who already have their trips paid for and planned already and they're all Americans. Brazil will be packed during the World Cup and Olympics.

Seriously, could you be any more dumb?

That's a pretty fair compensation package for a ref from Manaus.

It wasn't that a team lost. It was that the ref stabbed a player. Also, I don't think the problem with Brazil hosting the world cup is their national team not performing, their national team is excellent. It's more about the economic strain, that hosting the wold cup brings to a nation like Brazil.

But still. The cost of providing world class stadiums and facilities for the world cup and Olympics could be spent on other things, which actually benefit the nation, such as education. That's was the protesters are saying anyway.

Probably the closest I've ever been to divorce was when my wife and I vacationed in Brazil. I got caught looking so often that my wife actually went out and bought a thong bikini to keep my eyes from wandering. It helped, but not completely.

My point is that their fans are so passionate that they would do something like behead a referee for shanking a player. These people are fanatics and everyone all over the world will be on their turf. The government essentially has no control over these people. I'll just hope for everyone's safety then.

ROFLROFLROFL You think she was looking too?

Baby Lee 07-07-2013 11:19 AM

What strikes me is;

This was an amateur match. Much different than pro or certainly WC level. Who knows what kind of area Maranhao is?

How the **** is a ref equipped to stab a player to death, and the crowd is equipped to dismember a ref?

Sounds like this is more about the area than the sport.

The protesters are dumbasses.
Brazil can only benefit from hosting the WC.

Bambi 07-07-2013 03:46 PM

I'm kinda impressed that the ref could run around for an entire game with a knife on him that is substantial enough to kill someone.

Good thing it wasn't a doubleheader.
