More Sci Fi - After Earth

The trailer looks OK. Like most of the other suckers for sci fi I'll probably see it in the theater along with Oblivion, The Protoype, Elysium, Pacific Rim, Ender’s Game and Robot & Frank.

Was just about to post it...it's...not as bad as i expected from m. n. shamalamadingdong.

Bowser 12-10-2012 01:56 PM

An M. Night flick.

Well, I guess it will all be a training exercise in some holodeck somewhere, then?

**** him. I'll need to see positive reviews from most critics and people here before I watch anything this guy ever does again.

I can't blame you. He must be an excellent pitch man when he's in front of execs.

Normally you'd have to coach for the Chiefs to be able to ride such limited success to continual new gigs.

bevischief 12-10-2012 04:44 PM

From that trailer I have no idea if I want to even this.

Deberg_1990 12-10-2012 09:26 PM

Meh....too much CGI.

The Cruise one looks alot better. At least the TRON guy looks like he builds real sets and keeps the CGI to a minimum. I can appreciate that.

bowener 12-11-2012 03:08 AM

Robot and Frank is pretty awesome btw.

After Unbreakable each of his movies seemed to get progressively worse. I recall getting angry while watching The Happening. As in there better be a twist coming other than plants rebelling because this is ****ing awful.

The Happening and The Village were piles of shit, but I actually liked Signs.

The twists in all three were terrible though.

The only twist in his movies I can remember liking were The Sixth Sense (of course) and Lady in the Water (for some reason, I really liked that one).

I'm kind of 'meh' on Unbreakable. It was entertaining when I watched it but then again I was like 12 years old.

I assume you've never lived in the country or met any actual farmers. In real life, they actually do a little farming, they don't sleep in, and they don't need to rely on baseball bats for self-defense, since they all own guns (at least every single one I've ever met does). And while I've never encountered an alien, I assume that any alien race advanced enough to be capable of interstellar travel would be smart enough to ARM their invading armies with advanced weapons, and that these invaders would also be smart enough to not allow themselves to be trapped in a ****ing pantry. And if members of this race were allergic/intolerant of water, why would they invade a planet that is mostly covered by water, where it rains?

Signs is one of the dumbest goddamn movies ever conceived.

Yeah... every alien movie is stupid. Aliens would wipe us out in less than half a second if they invaded.

Did you like War of the Worlds? That was even worse than aliens that were intolerant to water. They aliens were intolerant to bacteria.

You can't see bacteria from space. Oceans, however, sort of stand out.

You know, I don't like M. Night Shamu movies at all, but watching that again, that's a well put-together trailer, and the movie looks like it has some promise.

Seriously? This looks like the weakest film of the big trailers released this week by faaaaar.

The trailer for Oblivion really didn't do a whole lot for me. Cruise just strikes me as completely wrong for the lead in that.

Man of Steel kicked major ass...

I haven't watched Pacific Rim yet but I'm about to. That's a movie I'm really looking forward to seeing.

Let me guess, After Earth is actually Earth before Man. They go back in time and populate the Earth.

I've liked both trailers, and I think the second fleshes out a bit more what looks to be an interesting story.

Its funny how they are trying to disguise who directed this movie. His name alone used to be a selling point.

Unsurprisingly, it's apparently not very good. I have a friend who saw it last night and said it was disappointing. Reviews are all "meh" as far as I've seen.

Those are pretty easy to smell these days.

The mystery here is Will Smith and Sony: Why did they partner up with him on a big budget "Summer Blockbuster" knowing his recent past?

silver5liter 05-30-2013 12:06 PM

I was interested til I saw m night shamalamadingdong was involved.

I don't know...it might do ok with family audiences and tweens. Jadens Karate Kid movie was pretty well liked.

He must be sitting on seriously damning photos of top Hollywood execs.

One good movie, one so-so movie, and years of shit afterward, and he's still going.

Maybe Dane could explain that one to me.

International grosses. MIB 3 was a disappointment here in the US (178 million), but it grossed $454 million internationally. Sony is banking on a larger international gross to make up for a lackluster US performance. Studios do not talk much about international grosses, or the fact that the international markets have increased greatly in the last 15-20 years. A movie can bomb in the states, and still be able to break-even based on a strong international gross. (The Golden Compass from five/six years ago is a prime example, it bombed in the US, making only 70 million, but made over 300 million overseas, which helped make up for the 180 million spent to make it.)

It wasn't BAD... It just wasn't good. Jaden got the vast majority of screen time so I'm sure this is just Will's way of easing Jaden into big roles in big films.

Yes, but in fairness, Jaden had a hit with the Karate Kid remake. It was a solid movie. Of course, the cuteness factor has worn off now.

That movie made ralph machio look tough..

Glad your kids liked it, but it should of not been called karate kid when it had jack shit to do with karate..

If it were great as they thought, a sequel would of been done.. It was the equivalent of a spy kids movies that also made a lot of coin but were actually horrible..

Just my opinion, glad your kids liked it, as it was a kids movie.. Just pisses me off about the name..
