No Green in Miami

Green still not ready The date for Trent Green's return continues to move back, as the quarterback said Sunday he won't play next week against Miami. "The earliest will be the Oakland game," he said. "It's all progressing nicely, just not fast enough." Green's original plan was to play against San Diego two weeks ago. He then targeted Miami next week. Green dressed out for the first time since the season opener and served as the Chiefs' third quarterback, though he still does not have medical clearance to play. It was the first time Green played the third-quarterback role since he did it with the Washington Redskins in 1997, a season in which Green attempted one pass. When Green does finally return, he said he won't have to worry about his head. "I'm not going to have any greater risk than going into the Cincinnati game," Green said. Allen has big day Defensive end Jared Allen took over the team lead in sacks, his two Sunday stops giving him five on the season to pass Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali, who both have 3.5. It was Allen's sixth career multi-sack game and gave him 25 career sacks, which is 10th in Chiefs history. On one of Allen's sacks, he forced and recovered a fumble, marking the ninth forced fumble of his career. Under his jersey, Allen wore a white sleeveless T-shirt featuring Gunther Cunningham's likeness on the chest, surrounded by a warm glow. "This is my guardian angel," Allen said. Long snapper Kendall Gammon put the shirt together. Allen, who is known for attention-grabbing attire, dressed in a suit custom-made to duplicate John Travolta's suit in "Saturday Night Fever." Welbourn returns The Chiefs activated offensive tackle John Welbourn to provide depth with starting right tackle Kevin Sampson out with a foot injury. Kyle Turley, who had not played in weeks, started at right tackle and Welbourn, a starter at right tackle last season, backed him and gave up a sack from the right tackle spot to Leonard Little with 11 minutes left in the first half. Then gave up another to Little in the second half as a left tackle. Welbourn recently returned from a six-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's drug policy. L.J. sets mark Larry Johnson's 1-yard touchdown run Sunday gave him 30 rushing touchdowns and 34 total touchdowns in the first 20 starts of his career, the most by any player in his first 20 starts in NFL history. Johnson is fourth on the Chiefs all-time rushing touchdowns list behind Priest Holmes (76), Marcus Allen (44) and Christian Okoye (40). Gonzo records Tony Gonzalez's 63-yard, two-touchdown day gave Gonzalez two franchise records. He passed Priest Holmes for the all-time lead in yards from scrimmage with 8,328. Gonzalez also caught his 58th and 59th touchdown passes Sunday, breaking Otis Taylor's record of 57. Waters injured Chiefs guard Brian Waters left the game in the first quarter with an apparent knee injury after a Rams player rolled into his right leg on the Chiefs first scoring drive. Waters left the field in an air cast. Chris Bober replaced him. Huard still shining Quarterback Damon Huard set two personal bests with three touchdown passes and a 138.3 passer rating. Huard set career marks for passer rating and passing yards last week. |
OK...conspiracy theory time....
The only thing Edwards has said is that Green is the starter WHEN HE IS HEALTHY. That hasn't been declared yet. I'm guessing as long as Huard keeps playing well and we keep winning, Green is going to be left picking splinters out of his ass. His return date will continue to be pushed back. |
Must. Know. How. Waters. Is.

Won't know until after his MRI tomorrow.

I don't see a QB contraversy here.

Trent gets full clearance this week, goes through 2 weeks of regular/full-contact practices and starts at Arrowhead vs the hapless Raiders (I don't care what their inflated pass defense ranking is).
