Pine Tar Game - Silver Anniversary

Today is the silver annivesary of the famous "Pine Tar Game". One of the funnest days of my life. Until Billy Martin tried to ruin it for me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Tar_Incident

Goerge Brett, three years after hitting the mammoth shot into the upper deck in the 1980 ALCS off Gossage, connects again at Yankee Stadium with the Royals training the Yankees 4-3. UL Washington was on first and the blast gave the Royals a 5-4 lead.

Until Billy Martin (c*cksucker) played his card. Brett coming out of the dugout like man posessed. ( Steve Braun said : We haven't seen a face like that since Charlie Manson"). Gaylord Perry sneaking out to home plate to sneak the bat away.

The Yankee dugout must have been sitting there just laughing their collective asses off. F them.

Goosage claimed "If he hadn't hit that fucking ball it would have drilled him in the neck". (greatest line in the whole incident).

Anyway, if you're going out to the game tonight, there should be quite a video display I would think.

Thannk goodness AL comissioner Lee Macphail wasn't a moron. The Yankees were such total pussies about the incident that during the August 18th replay replay of the last 1.1 innings they put Ron Guidry in CF and put Donny Ballgame at 2B. Total pussies, the whole lot of them.

Tip one today for George and the boys.

OK, slightly off subject but anyone know when this pic of Brett was taken? SI says it was after Brett's 1000th hit in 1979, but the K didnt have that Royals jumbotron in leftcenter back in those days. WTF??

Your mom is like pine tar.....after you dip your bat into her she'll keep it from slipping out of her hands during hard strokage, she'll help improve your grip up to 18 inches, and if you are caught using her too much your desperation will be laughed at by others

That is after his last home game. What kind of asshole hit would kiss home plate after 1,000 hits something a thousand people have done.

ESPN showed the pine tar incident at the end of their SC telecast this morning

I still remember, sitting in my rented house in Ruskin, watching the whole thing unfold on my 13" B&W television.

My guess is it was from his last game at the K.

DJay is correct.

That pic makes me remember that after Brett got his 3k'th hit, he wandered off the bag at first and got picked off. LMAO

Brett kissed home plate for the only time in his career at the end of his last home game on Wednesday night September 29, 1993 after the Royals beat the Indians in 10 innings (NOTE: see the Royals crown scoreboard... Thanks #5 George Brett).

BEST KC sports athlete EVER
