5 Stages of Chiefs Grief

With the 2013 NFL Draft only 7 days away, reality is setting in. The reality that the Kansas City Chiefs are going to pass on drafting a QB for the 30th straight year. For those of you keeping score at home, that's a long ****ing time.

5 stages of Chiefs Grief.

1. Denial - No effing way this team passes on Geno Smith, right?

2. Anger - Alex Smith?

3. Bargaining - Maybe we draft Geno, anyways?

4. Depression - Looking for a solid rope to hang myself with.

5. Acceptance - Alex Smith? LOL, ok.

Denial - This first stage of grieving helps us to survive the loss. In this stage, the world becomes meaningless and overwhelming. Life makes no sense. Nobody rode the Geno Smith bandwagon this offseason as hard as me. I want to be clear with any poor soul that is still reading this crap that I don't get paid to do this. Writing/talking/studying football is not my job. It's a disgusting passion that will haunt the rest of my life. I have a full-time job where a normal week for me is 60 hours. I spent many restless nights studying potential QB candidates for the highest draft pick in Chiefs history. I mean what else could they possibly do with the number 1 overall pick? They have to go QB, right? No. They don't.

Anger - Anger is a necessary stage of the healing process. Underneath the anger is pain. February 27, 2013. One of the worst days of my life, as a Chiefs fan. The 49ers agreed to trade Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for the Chiefs' second round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and a conditional pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. I'd love to go into why this trade sucks and why Alex Smith isn't good enough for my football team, but I've been doing that for a month straight on Twitter and various write-ups.

Bargaining - This is the stage where we become lost in a maze of "if only..." or "what if..." statements. I wouldn't really say I've been bargaining with anyone of importance about the situation. Mostly just the Alex Smith fan club on Twitter. You guys are great, I mean that. I wanted to talk myself, and others into believing that Geno or any QB for that matter was still a viable option at number 1. Running all kinds of scenarios through my head. This stage didn't last very long.

Depression - Depression is a very hard thing to shake when you've been devastated by a catastrophic disaster like Alex Smith. This took some time and is still hanging around. It will show its ugly face again, I'm sure.

Acceptance - Acceptance is often confused with the notion of being "all right" or "OK" with what has happened. We will never like this reality or make it OK, but eventually accept it. I've completely accepted the fact that I bought an authentic Geno Smith jersey for no ****ing reason at all. Well, we will see about that...I've come to the realization that this team hates making me happy. It's become comical at this point. The Chiefs are starting to make me feel that 'Royal' feeling. You know, that feeling you have about the Royals year after year. You somehow get brainwashed into thinking this year will be different and then, WHAMMY! Shit hits the fan while you sit back and laugh.

At times, fans in Chiefs Grief will often report more stages. Just remember your grief is as unique as you are.

FUN FACT - Did you know that only four (4) offensive lineman have been drafted number 1 overall since 1939? And, not one of them finished their career with the team that originally drafted them.

Thanks for reading. I'm clearly joking around in this article, I think...

I love being a hater. Much more fun than being a true fan.

The stank of whine in this place. Sometimes. This is what some of you sound like half the time.

What if you're a Chiefs fan born in North Korea?

Yep, that has to be the best description of being a Chiefs' fan ever.

A chronic disease with seemingly no cure, short of a playoff win. So, no cure in sight.

I don't get past the anger stage, ever.

Being a negative dick FTW.
