Haley will get another HC opportunity and will have a better end record than RAC as HC.

This conversation started because people are trying to claim that the effort in 2012 was the same as 2011.

And it's laughable that anyone would believe that to be true. Regardless of your opinion of Haley, good or bad, Romeo was significantly worse. By a mile. This was maybe the worst coached team in the history of Chiefs' football and that's not even an exaggeration.

Hammock Parties 01-06-2013 04:39 PM

Romeo is, historically, a catastrophically embarrassing coach.

Only 11 head coaches in NFL history have a worse winning percentage.

Out of 159.

They are both worthless cock chuggers.

Come on.

The Chiefs players didn't quit this season. They had five Pro Bowlers and had many rookies that played to the best of their abilities (however limited).

If a player were to truly "quit", his ass wouldn't last one down because he'd be injured and out.

It's more likely that the coaching staff has run out of ideas, run out of ways to motivate players and so on.

But to suggest that starting NFL players "quit" because the team has a losing record or bad season is ludicrous.

I'm sure that most offensive coordinators can excel with Matt Cassel as your QB and Jackie Battle starting in place of Jamaal Charles.

Dane come on man you know the Pro Bowl is a popularity contest! Its bullshit. Youre saying some of these players didnt quit even knowing they had NO shot to win let alone put up 7 points? Come on.

NJChiefsFan 01-06-2013 05:01 PM

I'm not sure that players quit on a season. I do however believe that once you get up on a team having a season like KC, their will to fight back at an NFL level drops. Add to that a bunch of idiots for coaches and especially a HC that lets the players just do what they want. It's a recipe for terrible second half showings.

Again, "quit" implies that they don't care. I don't think that's the case at all. They played soft, they made the stupid mistakes that come from an undisciplined team, they played uninspired and unconfident football that comes from a coach who has no emotion.

That too but I just felt like they had no reason to come to play besides being professional and being paid.

Mother****erJones 01-06-2013 08:42 PM

And they came out every game full speed but I just felt like they said ah **** it the offense isnt gona put up 7. Even Belcher texted a buddy of his that that the O couldnt even put up 7. So maybe they didnt quit quit. But im there were times they mailed it in

I can only answer your second question. The answer is, yes, it is an absolutely stupid decision to hire him. And I hope this gets decision doesn't get made until we square up our GM. I don't trust Reid to make this call.

Mother****erJones 01-06-2013 08:46 PM

When your team is struggling with the opponets, do you want your coach to devise some brilliant and novel strategies on the spur of the moment to win you the game? He won't. Do you want a brilliant clock manager? He isn't. Do you want someone who gives freedom to the players on the field or do you want a micromanager who keeps the offense plodding along even when it's hurry-up time? He is the latter."

Andy Reid is the Grim Reaper and we don't want him here. This is my worst nightmare. I was so hoping he would end up in San Diego so he could keep them down for a few years. He should have been fired five years ago. I would have loved to have seen some time with Donovan McNabb in his prime with a different head coach/offensive game plan. I think he could have been awesome.

Andy Reid looks good when his players win the game because they are better players. When you need gameday coaching and on-the-fly strategy, especially in the 4th quarter, Andy will fail. If the Chiefs have any success in the next few years, it will be because the drafts are great and the coordinators can do their jobs. I have no confidence in Andy"

Just incredible to remember that genius Pioli’s top candidates for a head coach in 2013 were…

Kirk Ferentz
Dirk Koetter

What an alternate reality we were spared from, and thank goodness for Clark having the stones to see through Pioli’s ouster to deliver us the Reid era.

Eleazar 02-28-2023 04:21 PM

Man, some old names in this thread.

I was definitely a Reid doubter after his tenure ended in Philly. So glad he came here on his way to Canton.

This is a great thread. I started reading it about two years ago, kind of off and on. Finally got to post 3801 today. Brings back a lot of memories about where the chiefs were back then, and the league. Interesting that a lot of the guesses about Andy's staff became realities, including Spags and Toub. Can't wait to get to the posts right after Andy gets hired!

Wow, I forgot they were even looking at those guys. We were truly spared. Even having Smith for 5 years was immensely better than what we could have ended up with.
