First of all, getting Tony Horne is good. Chiefs need a kick/punt returned and he fits the bill at a small price.

Trent Green? Different story. Yes, the Chiefs filled a hole for the short term, but the price was way to high. Guys like Trent Green are available all the time via free agency. This year, Elvis Grbac and Brad Johnson were available. Next year, who knows? Also, its my opinion that the Rams would have taken less for Green. Green makes big dollars and the Rams wouldnt have been able to afford him on their books this year. If nobody was interested in Green, he would have been cut, IMO.

And What has Trent Green done besides make a lot of money? Nothing. He is a journey man QB. The Chiefs have had to many of those. Its moves like this that keep this team from getting any better than average. Its no wonder they havent won a playoff game in 8 years. You dont trade the 12th pick in a loaded draft for a journeyman QB who only a few years ago was an unrestricted FA. The last time the Chiefs drafted this high, they got the best tightend in football. Before that, they got a hall of fame linebacker. This year? They turned the 12th pick into another QB castoff.

The Chiefs seem desperate to keep the seats full and give the fans a glimmer of hope.

Bad trade by the Chiefs.

PackFan....
Go back and read Green's stats before he got hurt...He did better than Warner and elvis..tee hee..:D

You sure do know how to rattle some cages, Ken.

Unfortunately I agree with Packfan. I think the price for Green was too high. Rome wasn't built in a day and there are usually plenty of QB's availalbe in FA. I would have filled the spot short term this year and gone after another one next year.

I like the addition of Holmes and Horne. I think now I'd take defense with most of the rest of our picks although I'd still try to find another stud WR. Our defense is going to be so bad Green will probably set a record for pass attempts cause we'll always be playing catch up.

Phobia 04-21-2001 01:16 PM

I agree with Ken. I think we paid WAY too much for Green but I'm happy it wasn't a 1st AND 3rd. I think we should have gotten more back after giving up #12.

I doubt I'd be here rubbing it in our face but I do agree.

I think everyone knows my feelings on this one by now...

'nuff said!

I really thought the final tab was going to be KC's 1st and 3rd (maybe also a 5th) for Green and the Rams 2nd...

Warrior5 04-21-2001 03:07 PM

At least you didn't blame it on CP.
I don't like the deal; just glad it didn't cost the Chiefs more. Hoping to trade up to a late 2nd round defender now (CB or DT).

Green's cap number is exceptionally low for the next two years.

Pitt Gorilla 04-21-2001 03:43 PM

If he plays well, we still have another year of small cap with leverage for an extension. If he bombs, we can cut him and have very little cap repercussions.

WisChief 04-21-2001 03:49 PM

I think this will make 2 times that I have agreed with you Ken.

Again, we should have kept the 1st - threw Collin's to the big, mean wolves, watched him sink or swim and then threw Josh Heiple (sp?) in there after we got him in the 4 or 5th.

At least we can all say that there should be no reason for sucess this year!!! Even you Ken.

I am anxious to know how Tong G feels about all of this??????????????

KCTitus 04-21-2001 04:15 PM

I remain skeptical about the Green deal, may be good, may be bad. However, I do know this, that packfan would have posted this very SAME topic if the Chiefs had kept the pick and picked a RB or DL.

That much I can be sure of.

keg in kc 04-21-2001 04:20 PM

Yep, it doesn't matter what we do, he'd be on here telling us how stupid it was...

mcan 04-21-2001 04:27 PM

I disagree with all you all. I shudder to think about how good this offense will be. And I think our defense will be all right. Just draft some linemen and lets get it ON!!!! I can't wait for football!!!!

Packfan 04-21-2001 08:48 PM

Titus and Keg,

You both are wrong. I have stated all along that I think the chiefs should hang on to the pick. If they would have done that, I would have applauded the organization. Just like I did when they finally cut the cord on Grbac. That experiment failed and it was a good decision to release him. Maybe you didnt read the entire post. I gave the Chiefs credit for signing Horne.
