Let's get this sweep done boys. It was good to see Chris Young sounding off. I like this dude. From Vern's twitter so forgive the format:

Chris Young had a solid response to the claim that the #Royals lack veteran leadership....

We play the game the right way, and if they're envious of that or they have problems with that, that's they're issue, not ours....

We're going to keep doing what we do. ... Playing the game hard. ...That's insulting to say that another team doesn't have that...

You can look at the character of the individual saying that, and I think that that reflects poorly on them & that's enough said."

In for the sweep.

People don't like the Roysls because they actually like to have fun. It's more than just a job to them. Each of them genuinely loves the game of baseball

It's been marvelous seeing the other half of the bullpen pitching so well. I'm not expecting it to last all year but I think they'll be hard pressed to do worse than what we had outside HDH last season.

Yeah, Collins and company left much to be desired.

Yanks up 2-0 already over DET top 1.
Price is at 37 pitches through 2/3 of an inning.

EDIT: It also appears to be snowing in Detroit.

Andy McCullough looks a bit like Jonah Hill.

5-0 Yanks

Yeah, let's look at it piece-by-piece:

Long man: Chris Young vs. Bruce Chen. Clear advantage to Young on this one.

6th inning: Jason Frasor vs. Aaron Crow/Jason Frasor. As it turns out, Aaron Crow DID need Tommy John (hmm, someone said that a few times last year, right?). A full season of Frasor is better than a 1/2 season of him and a 1/2 season of headed-for-surgery Crow.

Lefty specialist: Franklin Morales vs. Francisley Bueno: Haven't seen much of Morales yet, but he throws harder and has a better breaking ball, which should make him more effective in this role. Too soon to be determined, though, really.

Spare part: Ryan Madson vs. Tim Collins: Tiny Tim is one of the better spare part guys around, even in 2014, because of his K potential. But Madson looks to have returned to the form that made him one of baseball's best setup men. Another improvement.

It's rather impressive, an embarrassment of depth in this pen. Kris Medlen would be a guy most teams needed back, but he's just a bonus type thing for the Royals. If they get something from him this year, great. If not, he replaces Guthrie in the rotation - maybe - next season.

Same with Luke Hochevar. Most teams would be counting on him as their 7th or 8th inning guy.

Price just had a 51 pitch 1st inning and gave up 6 runs.

With a cold ass wind chill. That's a good way to get a starting pitcher hurt.

Why Young didn't have a job is a mystery.

Yes which we saw last year.

Another guy with MLB experience who surely could've found a 5th spot in somebody's rotation. But at worst he should've been called by nearly every team needing a LOOGY. His career wOBA vs LH is .297

The Madson pickup is just Dayton playing on his Ouija board and pulling shit out his ass.

So that's the unsolved question: does Guthrie stay in the rotation all season? I'm 50-50 on that one, although he did pitch great in Sept last year. I doubt they'll pull him unless he's really struggling, a la Chen last year.
