Christopher Nolan's next: 'Interstellar'

Script was written by his brother, and Spielberg was previously attached.

The project involves time travel and alternate dimensions in a story that sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole. The script is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech.

The script for Interstellar was written by Jonathan Nolan, Chris' brother, who worked on The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight, as well as Prestige. Jonathan Nolan (known as Jonah) also has a "story by" credit for Memento, Chris Nolan’s breakout movie.

Steven Spielberg was previously attached to direct Interstellar and produce with Lynda Obst. It is unclear if Spielberg will remain involved, especially considering the director's planned next movie, Robopocalypse, was delayed indefinitely on Wednesday.

Don't care what it's about, and I'm seeing it. Nolan has reached that status for me.

But Christopher Nolan hasn't missed yet. Maybe he's due. But probably not. The guy's just so ****ing good.

They tried to make too much shit happen, and most of it ended up falling kinda flat.

TDK had a much more epic feel with a much narrower focus.

You think so? I thought it was a great movie.

I think the hype w/ Ledgers death propped up TDK, but I thought TDKR was the better movie. I think Begins was the best of them all, minus Katie Holmes.

I totally loved the new Trek, i listed it in the top 5 thread... but it wasnt exactly deep, thinking mans fare, which is exactly what i'm expecting from Nolan on this one.

Feels like i've been waiting forever for a serious sci-fi movie that delves into heavy subject matter with some real imagination, Moon definitely fills that bill but was a somewhat sedate study of one mans experience.

It is a Nolan film. It is going to center around a male lead that is broken in some way, who will sacrifice himself to help others while also finding/fixing what is broken within.

While that fits for many movies, it fits for all of his.

Gotta love Memento. I wish Nolan would go back and make another one of these brillaint smallish type films. I think they filmed Memento in under a month.

But yeah the "good guy" in memento is definitely broken and trying to fix himself/circumstances, but he is perfectly willing to sacrifice 'other' people in order to accomplish this, definitely not himself.

The movie is pretty ambiguous, but that's not the impression I got. I took it as him using his brokenness to set up unsolvable puzzles for himself, perpetuating the problem, not trying to fix anything.

Oh, he solved them. One dead body after another.

But yeah I think sometimes he was puzzled, but other times he would figure out but then disremember. Like when he finally realized Teddy was using him to knock over drug dealers but there would also be times like he actually felt like he was investigating the "murder" of his wife, although he would also realize that he himself killed her at times. Just a great movie.

So Nolan is releasing this early on film. (35mm and 70mm) All those theaters that have moved on to digital are getting it on the normal release date. Naturally this has pissed off a lot of theater owners. Why Nolan and others get such an extreme erection when it comes to film, I have no idea?

It's nostalgia mostly. A lot of filmmakers don't like the look of digital. Too crisp, too clean, too TV like.

Film just has a certain look about it.

So basically the writer's idea is that the members of the academy aren't smart enough to understand the movie in one viewing and won't watch anything twice.

I think like with fantasy science fiction is always going to be a hard sell to awards voters. Too much imagination is asked of the audience.

GordonGekko 10-28-2014 07:37 PM

Interesting.

Just read a review by a guy who gave it 2.5 stars out of 5. That is a 50%, not even a passing grade in junior college. I mean, I haven't seen this (yet) but I just can't believe Nolan would fire out a failed product, too much quality control involved with him. While this definitely won't win awards it appears, I think a lot of these critics are trying to make a name for themselves (I mean this critic got me to read his review, had he posted a positive review I probably would not have read it) and make a splash at the expense of Nolan who seems to be a top critic's easy prey.

Just like the intro Omaha Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan.

A true game changer.

Gravity 3d was cool in theatres. Interstellar up to 73%

Ok. I'm really looking forward to this movie, but damn... I don't know if I can stand 3 hours of Matthew McConoughay (sp). His voice is annoying as shit. I'm sure women love it, but I can't stand it. Sounds like he's trying to seduce the audience every time he talks.

I don't think he's talking about the experience. Yes visually Gravity was great and game changing. But as far as the movie itself, the plot and dialogue? Just pure trash. Pretty sure if you removed all the scenes where it's just Sandra Bullock screaming, the movie would be about 25 minutes.

Ive posted on ChiefsPlanet long before Gonzo stole my millions and millions of casino cash. I didn't do it to be cool. I didnt do it to make a statement. I just liked the poop threads.

Haha yeah exactly. It was visually amazing no doubt. I actually just saw Moon the other day. Another different kind of space adventure where the main characters are in isolation. While not visibly astounding at all, i thought it was a better movie
