Driver help

So I bought this HP 4600 workshop and put a clean windows xp install on it and for the life of me I can't get the ethernet driver to work. I don't see any prerequisites to it, but every time I try to run the file off a flash drive I just get like a one second flash of a small DOS window. Has anyone else ever had anything similar happen?

Try a Taylor Made driver

Are you sure it didn't install?

The dos flash is the driver installer running and finishing very quickly. Try running it again by starting a command prompt and running the driver installer from there. You'll be able to see any status or error messages that are printed.

This.

Open a CMD prompt and run the app from the command line, that way you can actually see the output.

Well get this... when I open the file on the original computer used for the download it opens and runs a window with a next tab and all... but if i try to open the same file from the flash drive while it is in said computer it does the same DOS thing.

Just command prompt and the name of the file?

Probably have to change your drive first. So if your thumb drive is E: drive, than in the command prompt, first type "E:".

Then just type the name of the file and hit enter.

Did you download the driver from the HP website?

Drag the file from the flash drive to the Desktop.

Is this the file you are trying to install?

Yeah that's it, and I tried dragging it to the desktop.

Windows XP? What year is it?

Am I in a time warp?

It's an executable file. Not sure what other advice to offer, something is messed up with your computer.

You could always try original manufacturer drivers.

Do you have malware? Can you run any other executables?
