I sneak all kinds of food, too. And I'd never cheat on anybody. But...you might be surprised by the amount of infidelity that does goes on. Or you might not. Either way, there's a lot of it. Yep, I've heard stories like that, which is why I said I felt lucky he wasn't a DB to me at spring training.

I remember when I covered the 1991 World Series in Atlanta, before one of the games I was on the field and I saw Peter Gammons standing by himself, basically doing nothing, about 20 feet away from me. He was one of the biggest reasons I got into sportswriting, as I grew up reading his AL notes column in the Sporting News.

I wanted so bad to go up to him and interview him for my notebook feature as just a pretext to meet him and talk to him, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was deathly afraid he'd tell me to get lost, or big-time me or something.

I wonder what Dan was doing when he found out we drafted Blackledge. It was probably the same thing we were doing a year later.

This has got to be one of the best examples of money not buying happiness I've heard in awhile.

It was character issues like this that made us pass him up in the draft.
