Spread in the NFL

Who runs it?

The Patriots offense is pretty comparable to the Cardinals right? People say they Pats run the spread but I read an article awhile back and can't find it that said the Chiefs wont be running the spread under Haley.

Neither the Cardinals or the Pats ran the spread. Maybe they incorporated some spread elements, but that's it.

The Chiefs went full reerun.

I say both ran the spread. Chiefs just took it overboard by making them run a pistol formation on runs.

Lets see. BOTH your 1st string and 2nd string QB's go down and OUT for the season and your 3rd string is horrible under center. You incorporate the SPREAD to maximize his strengths and he does fairly well in the SPREAD ( very few wins withstanding ) and yet you want to say we went FULL reerun?

I thought Gaily did a great job of improvising. He may have sucked at game management and play calling but IMHO he did what he had to do with what he had to work with.

I call :BS: on your assessment.

You're right. Herm's R2P2 was full reerun.

The Thiggun was only three-quarters reerun.

I do agree with you Clayton that Thigpen IS NOT the QBOTF for the Chiefs or any other franchise. If he can learn PRO style offense wether it be WestCoast offense or WHATEVER he is a serviceable backup. If he thinks teams OTHER than the Chiefs will want him if they have to revert BACKWARDS to a spread offense he is sorely mistaken.

In THAT respect I say we would be full reerun if we keep him and have to do that AGAIN.

I'm wondering if the "spread" might not make it's way into the NFL because so many (if not most) colleges are now running it ... therefore, most of the top Q.B.s are not trained for the NFL. But, it's just a guess on my part.

Kerberos ... you are correct about Chan doing an excellent job of running the offense last year. It showed he is a pretty good coach. Probably the reason he kept his job. A lot of coaches can win when they have world class talent. Good coaches that what talent they have and succeed.

Chan didn't have lots of talent to work with, plus ... and this is a major PLUS, he had to do it under Herm's "don't score too quick" philosophy, and that impressed me. Can he run Haley's offense? I think he can if given the chance. It is possible they may work some of the spread into their offense just as a "change up pitch."

The comment was made about Thigpen not winning. I think you can't blame losses entirely on the offense. Our defense and ST's were very poor last year. So, let's not blame the offense only for losses.
