Today 12/27 Mel Kiper says.......

Mel says Mike Glennon will be the first QB taken in the 2013 draft and he could be picked in the top 10. He says alot of things could and will change as the draft approaches but as of right now he thinks the Chiefs should trade out of the top spot if they can and if they can't they should take Luke Joeckel with the first pick. He also say the Jaguars should trade down also but if they can't they should take a DE with their first pick.

That he isn't the next Tim Couch, Ala Geno Smith? That he can make more than one read, doesn't stare down his receivers and throw into tripple coverage and play with receivers that are amazing?

Regardless, you guys picked a bad year to suck. This class of QB's looks like crap.

KCFaninSEA 12-27-2012 12:07 PM

Mel like Glennon's size 6'5" and arm strength. He said something about his escapabilty but I didn't catch that part.

BigMeatballDave 12-27-2012 12:08 PM

Who the **** is going to trade up to #1 if there isn't a player worthy of a 2-14 team to take #1?

Kiper is reeruned.

Don't worry, the actual scouts haven't started working yet.

Once they do, Kiper will fall in line.

He's just the absolute worst.

The elephant in the room.

I like the fact that he thinks the Chiefs should pass on QB because none of them are elite yet he thinks they should settle for Joeckel.

Geno Smith might not be Andrew Luck but Luke Joeckel isn't even in the same hemisphere as Orlando Pace.

Wait...so a QB who put up okay numbers at best in the ACC is all of the sudden better than Geno who put up RG3 numbers in the same league that RG3 put up RG3 numbers to earn him the second overall pick for a team that traded the farm to get him? Riiiiggggghhhhtttt.

Same ol' lazy bullshit.

"There isn't an elite QB in this draft!!!!.....so take the mediocre tackle instead."

Geno Smith is as close to elite as there is at any position in this draft except for maybe DT and DE (depending on what you think of Werner and Jarvis Jones).

Joekel may not even be the prospect that Jake Long was and Long is pretty replaceable.

It's just appalling how shallow the analysis has been so far.

jspchief 12-27-2012 12:26 PM

Who the **** would our QB be? Alex Smith? And what would his contract look like compared to the cost of keeping Albert?

The Franchise 12-27-2012 12:27 PM

Just a couple of Mel Kiper's awesome thoughts....

Quote:

"I think Ryan Leaf is more mature than Drew Bledsoe, he's very much a grown up 21 year old."

"Wes Welker is not worth a second round pick. I don't care how much you like his work ethic ... he has done nothing to show a value that high"

Kiper had QBs Dan McGwire and Brett Favre rated evenly heading into the 1991 draft.

“JaMarcus Russell’s gonna immediately energize that Raider Nation, that fanbase, that football team- on the practice field, in that locker room- three years from now you could be looking at a guy that’s certainly one of the elite top five quarterbacks in this league. You’re talking about a 2-3 year period once he’s under center. Look out because skill level that he has is certainly John Elway like.”

"Ki-Jana (Carter) could be the next Bo Jackson"

"He (Peyton Manning) isn't John Elway, Dan Marino or Jim Kelly, but he's as good as it gets in college football," Kiper said of Manning. "A lot of these teams in the NFL are desperate for quarterbacks and he's the best out there, with Ryan Leaf a real close second."

Kiper rated TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson as tied for the 25th-best player in the 2001 draft, and only the third-best running back that year, behind Mississippi's Deuce McAllister and Wisconsin's Michael Bennett.

He thought Houston QB Andre Ware "was going to be a great NFL quarterback."

Kiper was high on Southern Cal WR Mike Williams; Detroit took him 10th overall in 2005, Williams made seven starts, had 44 catches and two TDs, and was out of the league after three seasons.

gochiefss 12-27-2012 12:31 PM

People need to realize that we aren't going to draft a QB #1 overall so it needs to stop now. I think Pioli is going to get Star or Manti Teo, both would be excellent picks. Then we can get a QB in the 4th or 5th rds to compete with Quinn and Cassel after we address our needs at OL and WR with the 2nd and 3rd rd picks.

At this point, I think the best option is to trade down, trade down, trade down and stockpile picks for the 2014 and 2015 drafts. Chiefs should make it a goal to have 6 picks in the first three rounds in each of the the next two drafts.

All true - but now go back and see who he thought the Chiefs should have dafted during Pioli's tenure. Had Pioli done as Kiper suggested, we'd be MUCH better off. Especially concerning a certain NT that plays for the Ravens...

Kiper's probably partially right. I bet Glennon does go in the first round, and possibly in the top 10.
It's become painfully obvious that without a plus player at QB you can't win in the NFL. This makes every team that doesn't have one desperate to get one. Thusly, QB's will rise up the chart and leapfrog more 'day one ready' players because they are MORE IMPORTANT.
No ILB is more important than a plus QB.

All of these pundits just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks anyway...

Here's what Kiper had to say...about Jamarcus Russel:

"JaMarcus Russell is going to immediately energize that fanbase, that football team -- on the practice field, in that locker room," ESPN's Mel Kiper said at the time. "Three years from now you could be looking at a guy that's certainly one of the elite top five quarterbacks in this league. ...You're talking about a 2-3 year period once he's under center. Oh and, **** OFF

Mayock on Blaine Gabbert.

Quote:

Mayock: ``He’s a big, strong kid who throws the hell out of the football and has exceptional athletic ability. He’s not as clean as Sam Bradford or Matt Ryan. He comes from a spread offense and is going to have to work on both his footwork and his pocket awareness. He’s one of those real good athletes who leaves the pocket too quickly. I don’t want to kill him for it because he makes plays with his feet, but it’s something he’s going to have to develop. He’s the only one of the quarterbacks I would take in the top 5. But even with him, there’s going to be a time frame of learning.’’

BossChief 12-27-2012 12:58 PM

College athletes have a difficult time verifying their accounts.

I think Johnny football is 1 of 2 athletes to have their accounts verified. In most cases I think the agents are the ones who verify their accounts and obviously these guys don't have agents yet (supposedly lol).

One of the guys I follow said he verified through someone at WVU that the one I just posted is his real account.

Glennon is gonna go first round, I agree. I see Glennon as a Joe Flacco type player. He's worth the pick, gonna take time to get him going though. He does not have the lightning Geno has, for whatever that's worth.
