No, unless you fork over 3k for a alienware laptop that has a 256meg graphic card and 1.5gig of memory...

If you're looking for a gaming PC, you might be able to find a laptop that would work for most games for a year or two. But laptop video cards are basically impossible to upgrade. A desktop PC would give you more flexibility when looking to keep up with the newest games' requirements.

I think the best arrangment would be to have a decent desktop with good monitor for those times you want to game, burn CD's, whatever, and a laptop with wireless connection so you could surf the net from anywhere in your house.

But since at home here I'm running Windows 98 with a dial up connection I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

Laptops suck... for Graphics.

The companies are not appealing to the gaming audience with their setups. You might be better off getting two used puters, one being a gaming desktop, and another being a cheaper laptop for all your portable needs. Then, you get the ease of having a big-monitored desktop, and also the portablity and transferrability of a laptop.

Moooo, who has a laptop

I've got a desktop and a laptop. I didn't really need the laptop but we have a wireless network in our house and I had some extra cash. It's convenient.

Hanging out in the front yard while goofing around online really kicks ass...or would if it wasn't hotter than the surface of the sun outside. It is nice to kick back in bed and surf, plus my laptop DVD player has a time stretch function that lets you determine how long it takes to play a movie. You can set how long you want it to be and it speeds the movie up to match your selection. Nice.

That's pretty sweet (the DVD speed). What program do you use? If that's a software function, I may have to look into that.

I think it's InterVideo WinDVD.

I am looking into buying a laptop for simple use, basically to connect to my wireless internet router in my house. Not going to install aol or anything like on it just need it for basic websurfing. Anyone have any recommendations?

If you're just looking for something cheap and aren't in a hurry, check out the forums at FatWallet.com. If you are patient, a laptop deal around $400 or so pops up every couple weeks. There might even be one now...I haven't looked recently.

Dell usually has a couple under $500 practically all the time. Their outlet store sometimes has good deals as well, but look often as the inventory refreshes every hour and their deals change weekly.
