Light bulb problem
 

I can't seem to keep a light bulb working in my kitchen. They burn out insanely fast, including two in the span of about 30 minutes tonight.

Now, these were the cheap old school bulbs, so I'll try the new kind. I'm just wondering if it could be an issue with the wiring in our place. (I'm a renter)

Or it could be a haunting. It's that time of year and all...

The reason I'm concerned about this, is that I have had a bit of a history with fires. (ahem)

Not at the moment. I have one bulb left though.

got a CFL has lasted 5+ years
regular bulb 3 months tops

I would say high voltage. Since your renting, bring it up to your landlord. Show him your dilemma.

Have you tried Florescent?

Yeah, that's what I'll try next. It's just weird. I've burnt 4 bulbs out in a week (all in the kitchen). The last two within minutes of one another.

Were they all from the same box?

3 were. The 1st to go out had been fine for a long time.

Do bulbs get "old"? I mean what would get old in a light bulb?

If they're cheap, the tungsten inside could be poor quality.

May have just been defective bulbs.

Ah, I was going the tinfoil hat scenario. More electricity coming thru the wires. Still applies though. I had the same thing happen last year with cheap (old school) light bulbs. Replaced them with with (energy efficient) lightbulbs and they stopped popping

cheap glass/coil. Remember back a few years ago when lightbulbs looked like light bulbs and not coils.

The fixture should have a wattage range sticker somewhere. What watt bulb are you putting in there? Make sure the watts match the manufacturer's specifications.

I had a similiar problem where the longest I could keep a bulb in the basement was like a month and a half..usually it burned out within a week. I switched it to a CF and it lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 years.

But first wiretapped and then fired.

The " socket" where the bulbs screws into has 2 connection points. One is the silver shell and the other is a copper colored tab at the very bottom of the base of the socket. Sometimes due to over-tightening when screwing bulbs in, the copper colored tab get pressed down to far and the base of the bulb you just installed does not make sufficient contact with the tab. Arcing occurs and it burns a tiny hole in the base of the bulbs letting the vacuum escape, and then the bulb burns out quickly. Try turning off the power at the breaker and then pulling the tab out so it sticks up slightly and then put a new bulb in it with out screwing it down so hard.

Clean out the socket with the sharpest knife in the drawer.

You need to have the right 53 bulbs.

You don't need to flip the breaker. Be a man.
