Pass rush isn't a priority.

We have Bowe, Avery and Hemmingway. Let's not forget Dressler too. Our WR corps are god awful. We should be eyeing a WR this entire time with our first pick.

Wide receivers improve significantly in their second year in Reids system, and our offense wasn't the problem towards the end of the season...

Pass rush is a MAJOR priority!! Pass rush helps our secondary. We need it badly!!

Don't forget Jenkins and Williams.....Either way that crew did better than our pass rush did the second half of the season and in the playoff game.

Hali was totally spent the second half of the season and a total nonfactor. He's also getting nicked up a bit. He's got some serious wear on the tread. I'd let him go after this year so yes, I agree: go with pass rush.

Blame Bob Sutton. He totally played conservative against Indy. Sutton is the reason why we failed. If Alex Smith had more weapons we could have put up more points in the 2nd half. We can give Sutton all the help in the world, but can he utilize his players?

I do blame Bob Sutton to a large degree. There are obvious issues aside from Sutton though. We could not get much pressure at all once Houston and Hali got injured which exposed our secondary. We need a pass rusher much worse than WR. Any offense takes longer to gel and work better. The offense should improve some just because of that. It also takes a WR a couple of years to impact the game as much as most other positions.
We also have to replace Hali and have leverage against Houston. Dee Ford accomplishes all of those things.

I don't see any flashes in Dee Ford, in my opinion I think he lacks burst. He seems to hit the QB after the ball is already thrown. I don't like the Dee Ford pick.

I don't like Dee Ford. One trick pony and that one trick isn't even amazing.

I'd much rather Ealy (if there), Lawrence, Attaouchu, Bradford or Reilly if they go for a 3-4 OLB at 23.

OldSchool 04-27-2014 03:01 PM

Really? Trevor Reilly at 23?

Not ideally, just rather him over Ford. I really don't like Ford.

CoMoChief 04-27-2014 08:16 PM

This FO is ****ing dumb if they draft an OLB with the first pick, and we're not trading Hali or Houston, it's not a priority and the 1st rd pick MUST start from day 1...not be a situational pass rusher.

Originally signed with Texas Tech. Eventually ended up at Utah at strong safety. Has played SS, ILB, OLB, DE and DT during the course of his career. Tough as nails. Played the entire 2012 season on a blown ACL. Very instinctive and plays through the whistle. Good array of pass rushing moves and excels dropping into coverage.

Big, long frame (6'5", 245 lb.). Athletic (4.66 40, 34" vert, 9'9" broad)

Married, two kids. Team captain.

The problem with Reilly is that he does have the ACL history and will be a 26 year old rookie. The guy will leave it all on the field and can play all four LB positions in a 34 as a three/four down guy. I don't think I'd spend a first rounder on him. If he was there in the third, it would be an easy pick. I like Van Noy a little better, but both are incredibly similar players that would fit extremely well into this defense.
