And please don't speak on his national championship run that he made with bill self players and the best backcourt in the big ten three pros

I would have to say Haith. Weber has been to the national title game and has had some tournament success.

Hopefully Weber is successfully at KSU.

weber....not even close

he completely lost control of his program and players...

without Self's recruits, he has been a disaster...his players simply don't improve...

Saulbadguy 03-31-2012 10:24 AM

He can't even recruit at UI. Simply an awful hire.

El Jefe 03-31-2012 10:24 AM

I feel bad for you guys, Weber sucks.

At least you still have Bill Snyder for a few years.

Boy, there's going to be some lopsided, rivalry-snuffing football and basketball series in KS for the next few years.

Saul Good 03-31-2012 10:36 AM

What a limp-dicked hire.

Buck 03-31-2012 10:39 AM

Wow. Good luck the next 5 years.

Seems like KSU was going for the safe hire, I think they would have been better off taking a chance, even if it meant hiring Doug Gottlieb.

Weber did win 2/3 of his games at Illinois, but they have not been very good the last few years at all. Tough to put a positive spin on the hire overall, he has been riding that final four appearance for awhile.

Maybe the Weber hire can turn out as good as the Haith hire for Mizzou. I know Mizzou fans at this time last year were feeling just like KSU fans are feeling today.

Maybe Weber can get himself a strong recruiter, since that seems to be his biggest weakness.

|Zach| 03-31-2012 10:40 AM

New and different situations. You never know how its gonna shake out.

Los Pollos Hermanos 03-31-2012 10:42 AM

www.firejohncurrie.com is still available.

PunkinDrublic 03-31-2012 10:55 AM

He had the perfect setup at Illinios. How do you not stay successful coming off a national championship appearance and having a direct pipeline to the best HS basketball players in Chicago?

veist 03-31-2012 10:57 AM

My condolences, this is one bizarre hire.

Might as well get a preview of what is going to happen to the football program when Bill leaves.

kstater 03-31-2012 11:33 AM

Jesus

Currie went with the safe hire. Weber can probably(if they all come back) lead next years team to a respectable record and NCAA tournament. Currie bolts before his recruits start sucking.

No, but another season of mediocrity and he probably would have been. I go back and forth on Haith, but on thing is for sure. It is hard as hell to win at bball at Miami. You are a football school in a bball conference.

Saul Good 03-31-2012 01:35 PM

Haith wasn't handed the keys to a National Championship quality team when he was hired at Miami.

Bugeater 03-31-2012 01:37 PM

Probably a better hire than what's his name that Nebraska hired.

He wasn't at Mizzou, either. Did you watch that team the year before under Anderson. Whatever Haith got, he earned. Nobody on that team was above a 3* recruit.

The Weis hire is being criticized by our opponents. The Weber hire is being criticized by everybody.

K-State deserves an up-and-comer, not a down-and-outer.

So how much does he get if he's fired today?

KChiefer 03-31-2012 02:12 PM

Don't forget to bring your ear plugs K-Staters!!!

Really though, Weber is a great Xs and Os coach. IMO, His problem with not recruiting comes from him being a super good person. Hence he's probably always done it "the right way." Also he just comes off as kind of goofy to me and that won't impress the 17 year old phenom.

Then there's the program as a whole in terms of recruiting. Our facilities aren't as good as elite programs. And if the campus is 3 hours away from Chicago, why not just go to MichSt, IU, or OSU? If you're going to leave within two years who cares about state pride? Chicago is almost like it's own state anyways.

I really feel like Jeremy Richmond is the biggest reason Weber is now gone. He was the biggest recruit we didn't let slip through our fingers, but became the biggest headcase/cancer most programs have ever seen. If he'd had his head on straight and stayed for another year we'd have been a legit squad.

Him and we didn't have a replacement for Demetri McCamey who was an "in-game" headcase himself. Not recruiting someone to handle and distribute the ball is a great way to get the pink slip.

Lastly, we had no leader on the team. McCamey, for better or worse was our leader. Meyers Leonard wanted to lead, but proved too young and immature. Thankfully, he can change that.

Illini Football and Basketball have been downright depressing for years(a rose bowl ass kicking and lame bowl wins do not help). If it gets worse from here, so be it. It's funny, Ron Zook was the yin to Weber's yang. He could pull the out-of-state "blue chip" but made awful gameday choices.

Nope. But Weber isn't bringing an association with an impressive scandal, either. Basically, you hired the college BB version of Herm.

illinois fans are hilarious

Weber is too clean to recruit...this excuse has been thrown around for years to excuse his failures...it's an insult to good coaches

and weber "is a great X's and O's" coach? holy shit...that would be news to the rest of the big 10

i've never seen so many excuses for a guy who has failed so spectacularly...he was handed an NBA team by Self and then turned the program into a pile of crying players and embarrassing losses

KSU should be punished for bringing this ass clown into the Big 12...Self will go out of his way to humiliate Weber
