Sony to announce PS4 Feb. 20th??
Perhaps?
http://mashable.com/2013/01/31/playstation-feb-20/ Could Sony finally be unveiling the PlayStation 4? The company is holding an event Feb. 20 to talk about the future of PlayStation. Announced via its Twitter account, a page for the event simply shows the date and time of the event (6 p.m. EST) along with the short teaser version shown above, with no other information about what it has in store Earlier this month, Sony announced that it will stop selling the PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 3 has been on the market since 2006, which makes the company due for a next-generation console. The PlayStation 4 has been heavily rumored to be launching in 2013. |
The dev kits have been shipping for a while. I'm sure this is probably the official announcement. Kind of useless though since everybody already knows about it.
|
Well hopefully they are innovative as hell because I feel like the next gen is going to fail if its just your plain ole console+controller.

will Madden Still suck? or will EA finally be foreced to step up their game?
..Can't wait for the PS4. I've loved every minute of my PS3. compared to the 3 Xboxs I went through in 2 years; last one replaced under extended warranty and I sold it brand new. Piece of shit console |
The brunette has very large breasts. I really wish I could see them.
|
I've been sooo tempted to get a PS3 the last few weeks, but I just can't pull the trigger knowing full well that the PS4 may come out this year. Sigh.

After the announcement tomorrow, we will likely see a price decrease on the PS3 in the near future. |

Watch it be something about the 1 year anniversary of the Vita with the introduction of playable PS3 titles on it.

It's an awesome console, just as I'm sure the PS3 is, you just had what sounds to be horrible experiences. Sorry, won't start the whole PS3/360 debate in here. For me, I'll be particularly interested in this console war between Sony/Xbox. I was a Sony guy with the PS & the PS2. Got an Xbox for a Xmas one year and I've been on that since. I've had issues with my 360, but nothing that I didn't have with my PS2. This will likely be one of the last consoles I personally buy. By the time the next ones come out, it will likely be my kids responsibility to purchase. I don't plan to jump on the next console as soon as it comes out, but I'm sure I'll be getting one. |
Quote:
My issues weren't with the box, I actually loved my 360 and never had a RROD or anything like that. I just got tired of dealing with M$ and all their constant BS. And if the Witcher 3 is only available on next gen, I'll be buying one right away. |
The PS2 to the PS3 was mind blowing.
A mind blowing difference beyond the PS3 I can not even imagine. |

We need Tiny to make an appearance and give us some insight
|
serious question;
so, say XBOX/PS3 etc come out with a bad ass console....wouldn't the developers/EA sports etc, need to step up their game as well? ...if so, how long would that take? I'm hopeful this would force EA to get their shit together (at least on the Madden side of things). .....when does the exclusivity agreement between EA and NFLPA expire?...I can't remember |

Hell, I am still amazed at the PS3. |

We are sort of at a plateau right now with game consoles. How much better can these new systems be? Its why the PS3 and 360 are into their 7th and 8th years now. I dont remember any other previous generation of consoles being dominant quite that long? |

My wife aske me out of the blue the other night if we could get one for the downstairs, and bring the PS3 upstairs. I bet the cost of the new ones will hurt a bit. |
not sure if posted...don't care
Not sure how much it reveals (I don't have sound), but did it look like there was 3D glasses? <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RyFmxNLH0YA?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5zYj8D8BWxY?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/N3mH8BmwYYE?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

It will be better by a few devs using unreal 4 engine and needing the beefier specs.
Unless ms throws a curveball and sony does not **** up on pricepoint and making games easier to code then they should regain dominance. Of course we will not know that until software sales come in. |
Quote:
I'd better start socking back a few bucks a month now. |
Quote:
If you're waiting on EA Sports to innovate, however, don't hold your breath. |
Quote:
As for Unreal Engine 4, the real innovation is in the toolset - they've made it INFINITELY easier and faster to work within the engine now. However, visually the UE4 is 100's of times more powerful than UE3. The big issue is that we're at the point where large graphical changes are only partially perceptible to the naked eye... |

$449 might be low enough for me to buy it before a price drop.

if the rumored chip to block playing rented or used games is true, this will be a flop.

As it stands, BOTH systems have been rumored to be including this type of technology. |

Wasn't the PS3 around $700 at launch? |

4 dual core processors?
That seems odd. Why not just use 1 eight core? or 2 Quad Cores.... |

It's why I'm not overly concerned about when these new consoles come out because if anything, I'll wait for the first price drop. |
I'm curious - who is interested in having 3d capabilities on their console, regardless of MS or PS?

I just never got the 3D craze personally, and as far as a console goes, it's not something I'm interested in. |

they don't even need to do this, what a waste of money. PS3 is good enough, sick of all this other shit.

http://www.ibtimes.com/eve-sonys-big...report-1095120
BY Charles Poladian | February 19 2013 9:39 PM Sony is planning something big for Wednesday, and the widespread assumption is that it will be the unveiling of the next-generation console PlayStation 4. Some sources have discussed the possible price of the PS4 as well as a release date for Sony’s new videogame console. Sony is expected to unveil its next-generation home entertainment video game console at a press event on Feb. 20. According to an anonymous source that spoke to Kotaku, the PlayStation 4, codename Orbis, will be coming out in November and will have two different price points, versions costing $429 and $529. These numbers and release date are preliminary and Sony will provide real answers during its launch event in New York on Wednesday. Price points for the two versions of the console could change as the year goes on and Sony could announce retail prices in June at E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is the video game industry’s largest trade event. Many features of the PS4 have been discussed, but much about the new console remains unknown. While the controller will feature a touchpad in the center, there have been several prototype photos that have leaked online, each varying slightly. One of the more interesting aspects of the PS4 that was discussed by Kotaku’s source is the integration of smartphones for use with it. According to the source, the PS4 can be controlled using a smartphone or tablet. There also will be a chat function and the ability to buy games from your phone that will automatically download on the PS4. Each console will include a Playstation Eye, says the source, which could allow users to interact with one another and could also include a “spectator” system that allows users to watch a friend play a videogame. The social aspects of the PS4 match previous reports of Gaikai, the streaming videogame company that Sony purchased in July 2012, having registered website domains centered on PlayStation Cloud, reports IGN. The cloud function of the PS4 was also reported on by the Wall Street Journal, which stated that the new system would be able to stream PlayStation 3 games. Sony is investing heavily in the social component of the PS4, with the WSJ reporting the new system will include options to post achievements on Facebook, upload videos to YouTube and possibly compete against other players across different platforms. Some information regarding the PS4, such as the controller and emphasis on social media and streaming support, seems confirmed, but there is still plenty of speculation surrounding Sony’s new system and there should be answers, and maybe some surprises, on Wednesday. |

This talk about a touchpad on the controller keeps making me thing PS Vita integration.

I could care less about all the social networking crap. Keep Facebook on Facebook, I don't want it on my PS. |

Purchasing and auto-downloading a game from your phone is awesome. New game comes out on a Tuesday, I get to work at 5 am, buy it on my phone, and its ready to play as soon as I get home. The 2nd thing I think has great potential is the streaming aspect. If Sony could sanction online competitions for certain games, and anybody could live stream those (like people do for SC2 and other games), I'd definitely watch some of them. It's always nice to watch good players play. |

In terms of scale alone, there's 15 Farmville players for every 1 COD player. The casual gaming market is 20-30 TIMES the size of the hardcore gaming market, just in number of consumers alone. Add in the fact that casual games take much less money to make (sometimes MILLIONS OF DOLLARS actually) and it makes it, much to my chagrin, a no-brainer. |
sounds cool. I won't use the social aspect of it, but the other features sound very cool.
|
I was trying to find pictures of it, but it seems like there are 3 or 4 rumored picutres of it?

ah. Ok.
it'll be interesting to see what the final design is, in terms of cosmetics. |
seeing that it would be 5pm CST; at least according to playstation.com
|
I keep looking online and hitting the stores about every 2 months and I've probably only bought 10 PS3 games since I bought it.
I wasted a good 1/3 of a year of my life on Resistance 2 and Fallout 3. Outside of those two there just hasn't been much that's impressed me enough to drop $50-$60. I still play 2 ps1 and 2 ps2 games on it... |
Gamestop FTW (in terms of buying used.....butt rape in trading in)
plus, you can always tell which games suck if they have a bunch of used copies of a game that came out a month ago etc. ie: Homeland. I eagerly awaited it, and it sucked balls. |

That being said, like you I don't play a lot of games. For the last 18 months (or longer) I owned my 360, I played Divinity 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur and that was it. Spent well over 200 gaming hours on each of them. I'm over 300 hours into Skyrim now on the PS3. I bought GoW Saga with the PS3 and finished it in less than a month (all 5 games). Traded in for Skyrim and have spent months with it so far. |
what is Skyrim?
only games I typically buy new are NCAA Football. however, I did buy Battlefield 3 (great game), and NBA 2k13 new. otherwise it's basically a used market for me. |

after today, i wonder how much longer MS will wait to announce the 720? IM guessing soon....
|
I've bought and sold a lot of used games on half.com. Gotta wait for it in the mail though :/

ROFL at their Twitter feed.
It was supposed to start at 6pm eastern, yet in the same breath they say "coming up in 30 minutes"...7pm eastern. |
Waiting for $599

Well since I missed the livestream, I hope someone puts it on youtube or something.

Instant live streaming is ****ing awesome.. Spectate mode -- you can watch your friends playing their games - live - they can also grant you control so you can assist them with a difficult part of the game.
Very ****ing cool. |
