The reason why he's an idiot is not because he tweeted something terrible, its because the entire world is just breathlessly waiting for an athlete, somewhere, anywhere to say the slightest thing that might look like non-acceptance so they can jump all over his ass.

This should have been obvious to anyone who is not a complete moron. There is no upside, whatsoever, to speaking out unless it is somehow supportive.
