"Unbreakable" screens for phones and tablets...

Coming sooner than I thought!

Rumor has it that Samsung is ramping up production on plastic OLED displays.

LG and Sony are working on the tech as well, but Samsung looks to be the first to bring it to market .. many think as early as next April. Will be killer to see this put in tablets as well.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is supposed to have a 5 inch 441 PPI HD AMOLED display.

Ohh, that's cool. I can't remember the interview, but the person was asked about what innovation we'll see soon in smart phones. And one of things the person responded with is that soon people will find it absurd that you could drop your phone and easily shatter it.

I'm not sure what I think about a 5in flagship phone though. Isn't this getting a bit crazy?

Break it and it's free!

I't also cool that they are jumping to 441 PPI,, which I used to think was beyond what the human eye can see but apparently Apple lied about "retina" and for people with perfect vision you actually need a phone to have closer to 1000 PPI to surpass what the human eye can distinguish. This number drops significantly with other types of devices that aren't held as close to the eye. Kinda cool that at this rate we will hit these limits in a few years.

EDIT: To be clear, there is some debate on this and it makes a number of assumptions. The first and most important is that a phone is held 12 inches from the eye. Many people hold the phone closer (8-10 inches) which changes the figure significantly. Either way, the number is somewhere between 500 and 1000 PPI. So we are either almost there or will be in a few years if people feel it is worth pursuing.
