Ryan Swope

I really liked what I saw from this kid whenever I got the chance to watch A&M play this year. Walter has him going somewhere in round 2-4. Anybody else interested if he is there at the top of round 3. I think he can be a Jordy Nelson type player for us.

Frosty 01-24-2013 08:13 AM

Not really as he seems to be more of a possession receiver. The Chiefs need someone with speed to be a deep threat.

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 01-24-2013 09:25 AM

He was a track stud in high school and has some good open field speed, but yeah he isn't really much of a deep threat.. Plays a little small, but he has great instincts. Id take him over McCluster, Wiley.

Yeah, he's really nothing like Jordy Nelson.

He's probably closer to...don't shoot me...Wes Welker.

He's a better option than McCluster or Wiley but don't really see it as a need.

He's a lot bigger then Welker which is why I tried to avoid that comparison amongst other reasons. He just seemed like a tough kid that shined in big games.

Like Rudy said, he plays "small".

He's definitely bigger than Welker but when you watch him play, he moves like a much smaller guy.

I like Swope a lot. I just think we have bigger needs.

htismaqe 01-24-2013 10:03 AM

FYI, reports out of the Senior Bowl are that Swope is the toughest WR on the field. Hasn't impressed with his catching yet but apparently his run blocking is superb.

htismaqe 01-24-2013 10:05 AM

I know what it is that reminds me of Welker - he takes really short, choppy steps when he's mid-route. He looks like a fullback at times. :)

How big is he? Nelson is like 6-3 205 right?

Rambozo 01-24-2013 10:16 AM

There are a lot of Chiefs fans I know who really like Swope. Some have us taking him as high as the second round but, I don't know about that. He seems like a guy we will probably miss on because of where we pick. However, he's definately a baller.

6'1 205 and Nelson is about 6'3 215. A little closer then the 5'8 Welker.

Maybe Hines Ward would be a better comparable.

Swope is like 6' even.

Rudy would know for sure, I think he's an A&M fan.

Forget about the height. I'm talking about how they play - how they run routes, how they make cuts, how they run with the ball in their hands.

Swope reminds me of a RB in WR clothing.

Nelson isn't that, at all.

Yeah, probably a poor comparison. Maybe Hines Ward would be a little better.

Wilson and Swope on the team would upgrade the toughness quite a bit which this team could use.

Sounds like Golden Tate in Seattle. About the same size, too.

From what little I've seen of Swope, I agree entirely.

The Welker comparisons are valid IMO because of the short, choppy steps he takes. Also, he's white and all white receivers must be compared to Welker. The inverse of the Rooney Rule, if you will.

Hmmm, Hines Ward. Never would have thought of that one if you hadn't said it.

Interesting.

We should track and see how many times they compare white WRs drafted to Welker as opposed to black ones. Maybe sue Kiper for $$$? ROFL

Im pretty sure he is 6' even. He was a very successful RB in high school like Welker- which may explain the short, choppy steps and open field running. Swope is easy to like, though he is a bit injury prone.

Sorter 01-24-2013 11:09 AM

I'm excited to see his 3-cone at the combine and shuttle. Anyone know his hand size?

Pretty much nailed it.

A bit small but I don't remember exactly. I think there's a report in the senior bowl thread.

B_Ambuehl 01-24-2013 03:13 PM

Swope doesn't have anywhere near Welkers short area quickness nor his acceleration. From 0 to 30 yds Welker is as fast as anyone, he just doesn't have long speed. Swope can catch the ball but in the slot you want someone with better quickness and outside you want someone who plays taller with long speed. He's probably a #4 Chris Horn/Marc Boerigter type of guy.

BigCatDaddy 02-24-2013 11:48 AM

4.34. Anyone having second thoughts?

he'll probably go in the second, and Im going to have to say no to the 34th pick.

Hog's Gone Fishin 02-25-2013 07:59 AM

I like swope and he'll be a good NFL reciever but we need to take a CB where he will be drafted

DJ's left nut 02-25-2013 11:30 AM

I thought Swope looked incredibly awkward yesterday. I wasn't impressed by his route running and his hands were just a mess.

Yeah, he was a hell of a lot faster than I expected, but he also looked like a very unnatural player and those kinds of guys get exposed at this level.

I think Woods blew Swope off the page yesterday and I think they'll both go around the same time.
