Chargers MNF Possible BlackOut

Chargers have until 5:30 to sell about 9000 tickets to avoid a blackout. They are mentioning it would be historic to have a MNF blackout.

Its hard to believe some Corporation won't step up and buy them out.

AussieChiefsFan 10-11-2013 08:19 AM

MNF. Blackout.

wow

Sandy Vagina 10-11-2013 08:20 AM

yeah, someone will step up and make the game televised.. too much money in it not to happen.

Yep, to much ad revenue at stake.
Cover some seats and call it a sell out.

This is OUTLANDISH!

I'm so pissed, I feel like breaking a beer bottle over someone's head.......

Mojo Jojo 10-11-2013 08:49 AM

I remember Chiefs mid 80's a MNF...special Thursday night edition...Chiefs vs. Raiders at Arrowhead in October. Price Chopper and Western Auto had to step up a finish selling it out. There were many empty seats. That's right Chiefs/Raiders prime time and KC fans couldn't sell it out.

dannybcaitlyn 10-11-2013 08:53 AM

What's sad, is they have the best weather in the country.

Still sad

sd4chiefs 10-11-2013 09:11 AM

I hope it's not blacked out. I was looking forward to watching the Colts kick the Chargers ass.

In58men 10-11-2013 09:11 AM

Many teams have sold out many games in a row, and are not worried about blackouts. In certain occasions, the blackout rule can be waived for a game by the NFL.

Valiant 10-11-2013 09:18 AM

I didnt think prime time games could be blacked out.

They Need to do away with the rule.

NinerDoug 10-11-2013 11:02 AM

That would be unheard of.

Of course, unless you're in San Diego, who cares?

Ace Gunner 10-11-2013 11:07 AM

not

Chargers “very likely” to be blacked out on Monday night

Chargers “very likely” to be blacked out on Monday night

When the Colts visit the Chargers on Monday night, eyeballs will be glued to flat screens from sea to shining sea.

Except in the place where the sea seems to shine a bit more brightly.

According to U-T San Diego, a blackout is “very likely.” To lift the blackout, the Chargers must sell (or buy at 34 cents on the dollar) 9,000 non-premium tickets by 8:30 p.m. ET on Friday.

It would be the first local blackout of a Monday Night Football game since the final week of the 1999 season, when the Falcons hosted the 49ers.

Tight end Antonio Gates isn’t impressed by the lack of support.

“It’s unfortunate,” Gates told U-T San Diego. “You want to think that you have true fans. . . . It’s crazy that it’s hard to sell out a Monday night game.”

The Chargers have opted not to take advantage of the rule allowing games to be televised if as few as 85 percent of the tickets are sold. The team apparently wants to encourage folks to fill the stadium.

“It gives you a little bit of motivation when fans come out and cheer for you and it’s a full house,” Gates said. “We like to call it that 12th man on the field. If that’s not the case, we’ve still got to go play the football game. We hope we can get enough ticket sales for people to cheer us on.”

On Monday night, 9,000 short of a full house will be cheering while the empty seats just sit there, bemused.
Pretty Sad if you ask me. I could understand a Sunday Day game black out but a Prime Time Game? Horrible fan base.

BlackHelicopters 10-11-2013 01:31 PM

I almost care.

Eureka 10-11-2013 01:49 PM

Should've made it a MNF game against the Raiders.

I would agree for a Sunday Day Game but not on a Monday Night.

007 10-11-2013 03:19 PM

Yet the Chiefs cannot get a MNF or SNF game. Why do they keep scheduling a team that can rarely fill their stadium?

CrazyPhuD 10-11-2013 04:31 PM

Meh they'll just replace it with Monday Night Futbol in San Deigo and they'll be happy!

Timing I would guess. Denver gets 5? Games and the chiefs only 1 thurs game.

mikeyis4dcats. 10-11-2013 04:41 PM

NO CHANCE this happens. i mean, there's enough local ad revenue they will make sure it gets bought up.

Eleazar 10-11-2013 04:50 PM

Crappy team, horrible defense, just lost to the Raiders. Can't say I blame their fans.

AndChiefs 10-11-2013 05:05 PM

What do you expect from a town named after a whales vagina?

mikeyis4dcats. 10-11-2013 05:21 PM

I see if it happens, this blackout will only affect a 35 mile radius from the stadium instead of the usual 75 as it's on ESPN as opposed to a network

Teams that pick first in the draft usually don't have a real strong prime time schedule the following season.

I haven't heard that, But unfortunately for me I live 34.7 Miles from the stadium according to Google Maps. I sure am glad I'm not one of the 10 Charger fans.

I understand that but we have a really good history in prime time games and they know arrowhead is electric in the prime time. With Any Reid coming in we should have got at least one SNF or MNF game this year. Thursday night does not count.

it isn't based on your location to the stadium but your location from the broadcast signal.

Yeah I am firmly in the grasp of the Broadcast signal. Maybe if it was the Los Angeles Chargers I would be able to watch it. I think I am 35 miles from an LA signal

The Chargers get a 24 hour extension. They have until 5:40 p.m. Saturday to sell close to 9,000 general tickets. The deadline is kind to stupid because the NFL always gives them a 24 hour extension.

because it makes so much sense to give them to teams that can't even sell out and shit the bed every season.

What they still have close to 9000 tickets to go?, that's how many they had this morning. At this rate they could have until kick off and they still would be short.

Blackout lifted for Bolts-Colts

Well they did it. Business folks stepped up and prevented an embarassment of this sorry fan base.

Quote:

The Chargers-Colts telecast will air live in San Diego on Monday night.

The club announced Saturday the blackout was lifted after ESPN and Chargers sponsors guaranteed the purchase of enough tickets to lift the local blackout.

About 8,500 tickets are still available, the club announced, and the guarantee will cover the necessary number of unsold tickets.

On Thursday, the U-T quoted a Chargers source who called a local blackout "very likely."

It would've been the first blackout of a Monday Night Football telecast in 13 years.

Kickoff is at 5:40 p.m.

"ESPN is pleased to have avoided the blackout and we are happy to work with local military and charitable organizations in San Diego to distribute a portion of the tickets to individuals and families who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend the game,” said Doug White, ESPN’s senior director of programming and acquisitions.

The Chargers listed as contributing sponsors Union Bank, Donovan’s Steak & Chop House and Donovan’s Prime Seafood and Brigantine Family of Restaurants.
