Errors on Windows 98 startup..

My dad has an old acer computer that he just basically uses to surf the net. I upgraded the ram over the last year for him and he's real happy with the computer.

However today, I decided to run defrag, scandisc, disc cleanup on his machine just to keep it humming.

Well upon re-start of the system. I got a bunch of command line errors when windows 98 was booting up.

It says all these are missing or corrupted:

C:\windows\ifship.sys
C:\windows\cabinit.exe
C:\windows\dblbuff.sys
C:\windows\himem.sys
C:\windows\command.com

How can I go about fixing this error?

I'm pretty clueless with all this command stuff.

Thanks for any help.

Heh. Good luck. Sounds like its time to wipe it out and reinstall Windows.

I'd rather just buy him another computer. This thing is 8 years old and I have zero idea where any of the resource discs are.

Can anyone give me a step by step process of how to start up from a disc instead of the HD? I'm just going to reinstall the windows drivers.

Thanks in advance.
